Re: UK State Pension in the US

As far as I recall I filed some claim information online around my retirement age in 2016 but did not provide any bank account information or make a claim as I deferred my UK pension because I wanted...

Re: Passport renewal - signature required

I found the whole process amazingly easy, especially now you can attach your own digital picture.

I received multiple notifications on my phone, one for each major step in the process.
One of the...

Re: UK state pension and USA social security

Wondering if you can suspend your Gov Works pension. If so, then ask the question of the SS administration if that will then allow you to receive full US SS pension if you also defer your UK OAP?

Re: UK state pension and USA social security

Depends on your situation. Will you still be working or will you be retiring, do you need your pensions now? Usually the financial advice is to take your US SS pension as soon as possible, if you are...

Re: John Cunningham - in ICE custody

The same deportations went on under previous presidential regimes, but suddenly, because it's now Donald Trump running the show, and doing what he said he would do, it's not right to deport these...

Re: Car's Planned Non Operation in CA

PNO will also negate the insurance requirement, probably another headache you can do without until the need arises.

Re: State Pension From from the UK to USA

I presume you were born in 1951? 65 is UK retirement age.
At 62 you are eligible for early retirement in USA but you are penalized, 66 is currently the full retirement age.

I also presume you are...

Re: State Pension From from the UK to USA

One thing to consider, if you continue to work in the USA and not draw any of your UK pensions your are eligible to collect your full USA SS at 66 and not have it reduced by WEP.

At 65 you are not...

Re: UK state pension and USA social security

I see no reason that not filing a tax return would stop you from qualifying for social security, if you were on a W2 then taxes should have been withheld, part of which would be for SS so you may...

Re: Selling UK Property as Resident Alien and US citizen Tax implications

Unlikely that the value of the property will decline as on average property prices are increasing in the 6%+ range per anum in England. I suppose you really need to compare the UK property increase...

Re: Selling UK Property as Resident Alien and US citizen Tax implications

Isn't the GBP to USD exchange rate a bit on the crappy side currently? Would it be worth banking the cash until the exchange rate is a bit more favorable? Of course, based on financial predictions...

Re: British bacon in Arizona?

Bone in pork loin rib roast, remove the ribs yourself, these are baby back ribs and good on the grill. Morton's tender quick with some additional herbs of your choice and you can cure your own bacon....

Deferring UK Pension

Just a quick question of those who have done this or are planning on doing it and have the answer I seek.

I will turn 65 in July and intend on deferring my UK OAP. Will the DWP contact me prior to...

Re: UK state pension and USA social security

A quick update, a work associate recently had a meeting with SSA and I asked him if he could ask if the above was true. He called me a couple of days ago and said that the SSA agent confirmed that he...

Re: IRS & "Tax-Free" UK pension lump sums

Hi Richard, and welcome to the board.

Why would you think you can not access your UK pensions? They are yours and just because you are now a citizen of the USA does not mean they are now...

Re: TV from the US to the UK

Indeed PAL & NTSC are old standards but this box will accept those video sources and upscale to a digital format. It will not increase the resolution of the original source material, which will be SD...

Re: TV from the US to the UK

Except the OP's equipment will not display 50Hz refresh rate, hence my reply that even though he was looking at the older analogue encoding methods their TV would still not display the video because...

Re: TV from the US to the UK

The Orei XD 1090 looks like it will do the job just fine.

There will be no SCART on your US TV, it's a French/Europe thing, kind of like HDMI, a single connection for the technically challenged...

Re: UK state pension and USA social security

The SSA don't want you to retire. They'd love it if you kept on working and paying in until you dropped dead, then they wouldn't need to pay you any SS pension.

A win-win for them. :sneaky:

Re: TV from the US to the UK

Nope.

Component has sync on green, sync will be at 50Hz in UK.

Composite will be PAL from UK box, TV will expect NTSC.

You need an HDMI scaler, such as the discontinued Atlona AT-HD560 which...
