Re: Cost of living.

As a small isolated market, NZ shops will always have a narrower range of goods than the UK. Personally though, having returned here after 8 years, I think the gap in range and quality has narrowed a...

Re: Cost of living.

I think things have improved since last time I was here on 2002 and trying to buy some heaters in December. Not available as it was "summer" despite the Wellington weather which was as it is normally...

Re: Pleasantly surprised...

Things are definitely cheaper down south. But more fun watching the Hurricanes - less predictably efficient than the Crusaders.

Re: A year in windy Welly

Hope things are still going well. You must have your fly buys card now! If you are still in Wellington, I hope you're enjoying this extraordinary weather. I'm back for my second stint here - there is...

Re: Pleasantly surprised...

And you can watch some of the best rugby players in the world for about the equivalent of £18 a ticket in the Super 15 league. So that's pretty competitive if you are into rugby.

Re: Pleasantly surprised...

I don't want to put you off coming here. This (despite some of the comments you may read) is a wonderful place to live. Going shopping is perhaps less interesting than in the UK but I'm guessing that...

Re: Pleasantly surprised...

I'd have to say that most things are dearer here. I'm pretty certain that's a fact. Not particularly surprising as its a small isolated market. There are bargains about but I think you have to work...

Re: did you already know?

Re: did you already know?

Housing is expensive in Wellington although you get a lot more for your money about 30km out of town. NZ lenders seem to be more inclined to give a bigger a loan to value than in the UK at present...

Re: Stay or Leave New Zealand?

You've listed most of the factors for and against. I would guess the most important things are job prospects for OH and prospects of having your own place. If these could be solved by leaving, it...

Re: did you already know?

Pretty well everything is more expensive here other than transport. There are various cost of living comparison sites including one on the NZ immigration dept website. I would say groceries are...

Re: Tax refunds if you arrived in NZ last year

You should be able to do it online through your IRD number. Don't forget to claim your UK refund either.
