Re: Help - not sure if I have had the right advice

This is quite interesting. We've recently shipped my furniture from the UK (Well, actually it hasn't left the UK just yet).

We have been advised I will need to enter the USA before the goods....

Re: No bachelors degree but have a Masters and Diplomas, can I still get a Job?

I'm in a similar position, the only time you will encounter an issue is if you want to enrol in another educational program in the US.

I have no Bachelors but do have a PgDip

Re: Marrying a US Citizen

The advice so far is sound.

Nothing wrong with him wanting to live in the US and marry a United States citizen in principle.

To remain legal, he has three choices. All of these assume he is...

Re: Cost of Living/Salary

Yes, I don't doubt it can be done. I have to say looking at apartment prices in the Springs the result is very similar. Although there is VERY few buses in the Springs.

With regard to the threads...

Re: Cost of Living/Salary

I would be exceedingly shocked if anyone could sensibly live on $18,912 (or 125% of that figure). $23650.

That's a monthly income of $1970, taking a crude 33% away in tax that leaves you with...

Re: Cost of Living/Salary

35k! Wow, I hope I don't end up low down.

When people are quoting 50-75k breathing - is that household. I must admit we are aiming for a minimum of 80k between us.

My better half also makes...

Re: Entering under the VWP while in possession of an Immigrant Visa

Essentially - you've hit the nail on the head, there doesn't have to be a good reason.

Logically thinking, I would imagine it is to do with a visa outranking the visa waiver program. The VWP by...

Re: Entering under the VWP while in possession of an Immigrant Visa

The answer it is it is possible and I have read examples of where people have done this successfully.

However, the POE Officer has the right to insist you use the visa in your passport, and will...

Re: Buying Cars after K1 Entry

Rene - that's my understanding. The majority of people who use it are on the H1B or L1 and generally will have their business give them a rental for a while.

Most K1s wouldn't be able to use it as...

Re: Buying Cars after K1 Entry

Yes, I do - but she already has an outstanding car loan. I wouldn't want to put extra pressure on her credit. That's purely unfair.

Re: Inheritance advice needed...

I understand you anguish, but you really need to think before acting on this one. It will potentially be exceedingly costly.

Also if the family can show he had knowledge of you prior to dying and...

Re: Buying Cars after K1 Entry

I definitely don't need new. However, I am working on the understanding that getting a loan is almost impossible when I arrive.

Re: The famous 221g

Thanks Rene, what's a "watch list" is this basically suspected criminals? Terrorism?

I'm hoping this issue won't affect me as I have an exceedingly long (and thus, reasonably unusual) name.

Re: The famous 221g

Great news, well done Bally.

Re: Buying Cars after K1 Entry

Yes, I need to go and try a few of them on my next visit to the US.

The Compass appears to have reasonably mixed reviews. I've driven a Cherokee which I was okay with (I didn't own it, however)

Re: Am I a British citizen? (Or could I easily become one?)

My understanding is that usually it would be by Birth. What were your great-grandparents doing in South Africa? Were they permanent residents at the time of the birth?

Re: Am I a British citizen? (Or could I easily become one?)

Traditionally that is the case, but as long as they are a GB citizen "otherwise than by descent" then you will be able to do it.

It feels like it's probably a long shot in this instance but that...

VisaJourney is showing 126 days at the moment for CSC. Not sure how accurate that is, but that would put you a little over. The official time is 5 months.

126 is around 4 months. They are showing...

No, you would not be a British Citizen by descent.

This is because your father looks like he is either a British Citizen by Descent which he cannot pass on or he is not a British Citizen but he is...
