Advice on Smallholding in Ottawa-area

I am contemplating renting a parcel of land (perhaps 3 to 5 acres) to run as a small-holding basis withint 30 minutes of so of central Ottawa.

I do not need the income but would operate the land...

So things are more positive than I had thought.

Rhubard is important to me, but there are a group of E-N-G-L-I-S-H fruits and foodstuffs that I like.

In general is cultivation of these things...

I don't eat eggs - so that's not a problem. Tomatoes are a bit love/hate for me - but NOT a staple.

That is hot. But I know for 7 or 8 months of the year its VERY COLD so I need to plan.

Any repsonse to the query re.: Coconuts? Are they available? Year round? Tasty?

Yes, growing might be an option, then storing. Either freezing in bags, or else stewing/pickiling it in jars for the lon winter. It is part ofmy daily routine, so I don't want to give up on it. 'm...

I was worried about the rhubarb situation - especially out of season. In the UK I am used to eating it most days. I will have to think about freezing a goodly supply...

Thats rubbish.

Bu there might be seals in the river? Or is that crazy? There are deer near where I live in England and they just run round wherever they want.

Well I already have two cats and they're not polar, they're ginger. And normally they don't like the cold, even in england. I don't really want to kill htem just to buy some new polar ones.

Its been pissing down all over the island since the the middle of may. I was there last week. Good out to the Crab and Lobster in Bembridge for lunch looking over the beach. Nice.
