Re: Half a million dollars. . . . REALLY !!

A real wake up call, scary stuff. I stayed in a 'hotel/motel' on the outskirts a few years ago and it was perhaps the worst I've ever had the misfortune to witness, nothing available closer to the...

Re: Things to buy outside of NZ to bring with flight?

Most items are available, but NZ is maybe a little short choice for clothes. I would suggest that you may be visiting Kathmandu frequently for lots of outdoor wear, they have frequent sales as well...

Re: Car advice

Far better to buy in New Zealand. There is a great choice of imported Japanese car on offer at very decent prices in Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranaga. You may get hit with a hefty fine/cost if...

Re: Air New Zealand - Lightening Strike

I was thinking more about other so called lightening strikes that seem to happen on low passenger number flights and Air New Zealand are 'unable' to make an alternative plane available even after 24...

Air New Zealand - Lightening Strike

How common is it for a plane to have a lightening strike here. I'm wondering if this is an all too common excuse to cancel a flight when all seats are not taken. Then their obligations are ended....

Re: Has anybody brought in seeds to NZ?

I would not even attempt to bring seeds, I declare my Yorkshire Tea bags and any food, sweets or drink even when wrapped and processed just to be on the safe side.

Stargazing

What a perfect night for watching the sky. I didn't get many chances to watch a perfectly clear sky in the UK. The surroundings are quiet, the sky is just about jet black except for the distant light...

Re: Madness

Similar place this morning, a mid-aged chap pushing a cycle with a younger female companion holding a young child on the roadside just casually walking and chatting with the flow of traffic. Beware...

Re: NZ Wine Appreciation Society

Just a few years ago, a great of mine; but many years older had the suspicion that the people attending his house dinners and afternoons were in fact 'wine pseuds' to test the theory he saved some...

Angry Madness

Returning home from the local store a chap exercising his dog while jogging crossing a busy road dressed in a black top, black socks, black trainers and black shorts, thankfully I saw his dog. All...

Re: Calling all Wellingtonians (?) - suggestions please

I have yet to see anywhere that remotely looks and feels like an Aldi or Lidl here. You may be a little disappointed on the possible options eventually for alternatives when shopping for groceries....

Re: Ideas for places to visit during reccie please

As in the above post, you should try Huka Falls, New Zealand (http://www.hukafalls.com/) too, it's free at present and no silly car parking charges.

AVOID Kerosene Creek no matter what the AA say,...

Re: Ideas for places to visit during reccie please

Hamilton Gardens on the outskirts of Hamilton, this is the 'Jewel in the Crown', ensure you find the Italian Gardens on a hot sunny day, other times it is only wonderful.

Talking Dental Costs

It may come as no surprise that dental treatment in NZ is high, I guess even higher than the UK or elsewhere. It may be worth doing a complete overhaul before venturing down to NZ.

Here is a...

Re: New Zealand much larger than i expected

What a great thread, I've already used it elsewhere.

It's a shame in my case that NZ is not that close to the UK, how great that would be for a weekend trip. I could even handle Ryanair for that...

Re: Christmas in the shops the past 3 weeks or more.

Bunnings were the first in Rotorua that I noticed. Maybe next year we should have a thread contest to note the first retailer to start in NZ.

Anyway, not long to Easter. ;o)

Re: Coffee

I am sure there will be someone along soon. Morning coffee is popular, especially with a warm buttered muffin.
