Re: First time homeowner!

I'm a fan of forming a long term plan for the home, that way you can figure out how to group work together. We have a multi year plan that features one major project a year, e.g. 2018 was about...

Re: Let's talk about cars

I have 455hp in my Camaro, and yeah, the only place I really fully open the throttle is at the track, on the public road there really aren't safe, sensible opportunities to do so. Mind you, it also...

Re: Planespotting II

The fact that you can be sat in a bar having a beer, having checked into your hotel, inside 30 mins of getting to the gate is not something I would like to see change. It's one of my favorite...

Re: Best US Mobile Network for calling UK

I use Skype for UK calls. I have a subscription that's $2.99 a month for unlimited landline UK calls and works well. For years it's been fine both using WiFi and also on cellular data from my iPhone.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I read this article this morning, https://thepointsguy.com/news/use-miles-before-airline-bankruptcy/. At the time it was still possible to do non-flight redemptions with Virgin Atlantic miles, poor...

Re: WAZE

I can't remember where it is in the app because I did it years ago, but you can pick and chose which alerts you get. "Vehicle stopped on side of the road" is close to pointless in my view, if it is a...

Re: Planespotting II

I fly them each week, my flight SEA-SFO tomorrow AM normally has a 90-95% load factor, from what I can see right now there aren't even enough MVPs to fill first class, rows and rows empty on the seat...

Re: Let's talk about cars

On that point, the dealer might try to roll in Gap Insurance into the deal, which covers you against negative equity in the car in case of an insurance loss. Don't get that as you won't need it and...

Re: Planespotting II

I love Alaska, have always found they handle issues well, and base in Seattle they have more directs than any other airline out of SeaTac.

I was flying to SLC one Sunday last year and our flight...

Re: Lounge access JFK

I'm not so sure, I don't know 100% but I've flown through airports and 1 of myself or my wife have used security in a different terminal so we can have dinner together before getting on different...

Re: Washington State

The Brits in Seattle meet-up group has some good folks in it. We don't go to many events but we are a fan of their Pub Quizzes, they do a range of stuff, it's not just a pub orientated group.

Re: Planespotting II

I'm also surprised at this, if I'm making a 4+ night trip, or need to take my suit or something I'll use my roll aboard, but less than that I have a small duffle that if needed I could get under the...

Re: Let's talk about cars

Good advice, Have a 7 year old BMW, I've had it for 4 years. I joke that each time now it gets serviced if it comes out costing less than $2k I'm winning, and so far I've been winning but know that...

Re: Let's talk about cars

Not over here, there is a 4-cylinder that will be available in Europe that has a manual but we're not getting in.

I like having a auto in my daily, but manual in my weekend car. I know I'm slower...

Re: Anyone in, near, or once passed through Seattle?

We moved to Seattle nearly 2 years ago from San Francisco. For my career (tech) I wanted to stay on the West Coast but SF wasn't for us. Net net it's one of the best decisions we have ever made and...

Re: Let's talk about cars

I think you're right. Thanks all for the responses, I thought this approach sounded odd. I'm visiting the dealer this afternoon, could be a quick discussion if they don't want to move on this point.

Re: Let's talk about cars

I'm thinking of buying a Camaro and considering actually buying new rather than used which is my normal route. If I'm going to buy new I'll custom order as I want it to be the exact spec I want and...

Re: The scourge of unwanted phone calls

One of the side effects of moving across the country, from Boston to Seattle, and not changing my mobile number is that it makes it easy to screen the majority of spam calls. As they try to use a...

Last World Cup there was a large group that went to The Greatest Bar in the North End. I would join the Boston Brits group on Facebook to see what's going on. Could have changed am I'm not in Boston...

Yes, I was thinking this the other week. I'm not sure I could do this when I first arrived here in the US 5 years ago but now I see people, think their British and then I hear them speak to confirm...

Re: Airport Security

It's down to luck how busy immigration will be at SFO. Sometimes there is only 1 flight which has arrived, but there could be two who came in right before you making immigration busy.

On the plus...

Re: Kettles never last

Same issue here, I think we're on our 3rd and it's not quite been 4 years since we arrived here.
