Re: EID - September 2016 - Ideas

Yeah, I've been all round Nizwa, Muscat but not that far south before - the dunes look like snow!

Re: Media/PR Career: Dubai or London?

I worked in PR for 7 years in the UK, across multiple agencies. Salary should be around:

Account Executive/'consultant': £21k, add 1k for every year of experience
Account Manager: £30-35k...

Re: Move to Abu Dhabi

I have absolutely no idea why I wrote that. I live in Beach Towers. I think I was thinking about Gate when I wrote it (I have a few friends in there, but I like balconies... and opening windows :p)

Re: Move to Abu Dhabi

I read a bunch of stuff on this forum before I moved out here that said to move to Abu Dhabi rather than Dubai, so I did.

2 years on still wish I'd moved to Dubai ;) but I'm hardly miserable. I...

Re: Teacher starting new post in Dubai - September 2015

I work in PR/communications, which is thankfully a reasonably well paid industry here; part of our reason for moving out was that we knew there were jobs for both of us. It took me 4 increasingly...

Re: Teacher starting new post in Dubai - September 2015

Yep, that's the place we used, sorry - Disclosure Scotland = DBS Scotland :)

I too have been told salaries are (slightly) higher in Abu Dhabi. Which is funny cos there's not half as much to spend...

Re: Teacher starting new post in Dubai - September 2015

Hey there. You sound similar to where I was 2 years ago. Two 'deposit savers', no kids.

We're in Abu Dhabi, but know many who have taught in both Dubai and AD and say the process is pretty much...

Re: Cars in the UAE? The dark side

Your best bet is to buy 'showroom new' - ie. been used for test drives, sat in the showroom for a few months, but still shiny and full warranty. I got 25k off my jeep, which basically knocked off the...

Re: Initial costs for settling in Dubai

The one thing we didn't budget enough for was the furniture and fittings. Just buying a full kitchen of pots, pans, knives, forks, chopping boards etc etc suddenly found us running up the thousands...

ADEC/Ramadan Rumours...

Hi all,

My wife works for a school in Abu Dhabi. We were originally told that school would start again on 31st August.

We are now hearing rumours that due to Ramadan being early this year, the...

Re: 19 month lease?

Thanks - good to know :) I'm having trouble contacting my landlord at the moment (the only number I have for him, he hangs up when I try to explain who I am... not a great sign!) but if it's not...

Re: Adu Dhabians

My sentiments exactly.

The only bit of Dubai I prefer to Abu Dhabi is Deira/Bur Dubai - areas that have a bit of culture. Otherwise, I'll take Abu Dhabi, with its quiet, free beaches, compact grid...

19 month lease?

Hi all,

Has anyone negotiated, or heard of anyone negotiating, a longer rental (in the knowledge that they will leave the UAE then)?

We arrived in September last year, and our plan is to move...

Re: Pensions

Good tip. ANd hey, 15%... that's less than the tax I'd be paying :)

Yep. Though my wife has 10 years' teacher's pension. I can't just survive on hers? :p

Re: Pensions

Yeah, I've had a bunch of calls recently.

Unfortunately I'm like striking oil for them...

Them: Hello, how old are you?
Me: 30...
Them: And do you have a pension?
Me: *sigh* No.
Them: AHA!

Re: Dubai or Abu Dhabi

The two tiered Internet thing really gets me. Like, there *has* to be a premium option, for everything. Even if it means limiting the non-premium option (it doesn't cost the hotel anything to run a...

Heh - I turned 30 last week, so maybe I was 6 months premature ;)

Fellow Reem resident, too. If only we had a pub/bar...!

Re: Dubai or Abu Dhabi

I guess "nothing to do" comes down to what you actually want to do! Abu Dhabi certainly doesn't have the level of Western nightlife/art galleries/brunch fun that Dubai does, and if that's your thing,...
