Re: Driving times to Jumeirah College

Re: Driving times to Jumeirah College

That sounds lovely Patsy...but probably a little bit too pricey at the moment bearing in mind all the costs that crop up when you move somewhere new. I shall have to stand outside your gates and...

Re: Driving times to Jumeirah College

Well that was easy - thanks Millhouse. Estate Agentry said it would take 15-20 mins to get to Jumeirah College for the school run...does that ring true?

Re: Bahrain where to live

Adliya would make it difficult to get to school, and would be rubbish for play dates. I know there are plenty that go from Riffa Views, but I personally think its a bit far. Hamala is a bit closer....

Driving times to Jumeirah College

Well, had a very disappointing day trip to look at villas round Umm Sequiem/Jumeirah the other day. Falling apart kitchens and bathrooms of all sorts of shades of pastel... We've got a budget of...

Re: Day Of Rage In Bahrain Demonstration

The turn off from the highway at Seef was tire burned at about half ten, 11 this morning. May just be bad luck on my part, but it had been ages since I've been caught up in anything that isn't on...

Re: Bahrain work permit and residence

"it's not so important if those rules are broken"*

Re: Bahrain work permit and residence

You could get an evisa to be sure, but it's a bit of a faff and like Scottrace says, you only get 2 weeks. Worse case scenario is that you have to wait a bit for a visa on arrival, but most people...

Re: Is the tap water in the Gulf hair friendly?

I must be the only person then whose hair comes out better in Bahrain than the UK. South East water makes my hair dry and brittle, whereas here its absolutely fine. Loads better in fact.

Re: Bahrain - buses to British school

And for what it's worth, don't think of drivers as being amazing drivers either...it would probably be safer for your wife to man up and drive herself seeing as she knows the 'proper' rules of the...

Re: Bahrain - buses to British school

Can't remember the name, but the number is 17731661. They go from all over the place, but it can take a while on the buses as they tend to pick the kids up one at a time...

Re: Bahrain - buses to British school

Your wife will go mental without a driver or a license! In any case, as far as I am aware there are no busses to St chris infants/juniors, but if you're on a compound, chances are your kids could...

Re: Interview for a job in Abu Dhabi

If you're paying a relatively low rent in the UK and there's a good primary nearby, would seem the best way to go about it whilst you find your feet, decide if it's for you and get some cash tucked...

Re: Interview for a job in Abu Dhabi

As you say, I think the comments on it all looking like it would work money-wise on paper, but it would be more difficult in real life are worth taking in. It's difficult to explain, but what you...

Re: Interview for a job in Abu Dhabi

I don't live in AD, so this is more of a perspective from a woman in the middle east, but it's going to be really, really tough going on that salary. There is very, very, very little to do here that...

Re: Lack of Clothes - again

If I'd wear it see my husband's Nan, I'll...

Internet isn't as fast as the UK, but it's fine. I may be totally making this up, but it seems to me that the internet slows down quite a lot if it's a bit feisty out and about on a Thursday and...

Re: Questions about Bahrain

For a single chap, that sort of money looks absolutely fine to me...You can get a decent apartment for 500, although you might need to top up on the car allowance. Even if you went out twice a week,...

Re: Should I stay or should I go?

Here in Bahrain, which i understand is a bit more expensive than AD, we spend about 2000 a month for a family of four. Lots of local veg and basics but with a few western things like marmite,...
