Budget for extra expenditure in the first few months as you'll want to go out and explore and find your feet.

What local produce?! I would think at least 95% of food for sale in the UAE is imported, maybe more!

Regional produce is available. For example, a regional cauliflower is usually a quarter of the price of one imported from further afield. Pasta made locally (there are several factories in the UAE) is cheaper than stuff flown in from Italy.

I think most of us mean regional when we say local in terms of food. You can get fruit and veg grown in the UAE itself and there are a few 'farmers markets' that have the stuff for sale, albeit more in Dubai than in AD at the moment.

You can save a lot my shopping smartly. Buy local produce where it's good, go to the Co-ops for household products in bulk and treat yourself occasionally at Spinney's.

Aren't the local farms irrigated with treated sewage effluent (TSE)? I'm sure it's all subject to the same rigour and quality control that Tesco would apply...

Good luck and do keep posting. Don't be one of those who gets their info and never comes back to play.

Will do - as much as I can anyway

Not sure how helpful my advice will be until we find our feet...
