Re: Money transfers to Thailand from HSBC (UK) - slower and error

Ridiculous and totally useless comment.

Vey simple Davita. This is a discussion forum and it is useful to bring information such as this recent development to the attention of others. You have...

Re: Money transfers to Thailand from HSBC (UK) - slower and error

Sorry, but I disagree. Not going to labour the point longer as it's going round and round in circles.

Your first point is totally irrelevant in this scenario. HSBC has no presence / bank in...

Re: Money transfers to Thailand from HSBC (UK) - slower and error

No, it's confirmed it IS a charge by HSBC for using an intermediary. To clarify:

1) I am Premier member.

2) I have done literally hundreds of GBP transfers from the same HSBC UK account to...

Re: Money transfers to Thailand from HSBC (UK) - slower and error

Thanks. I intend to switch to using them from now on.

In all honesty I'd probably rarely need to bother with the back calculation, just a rough guesstimate (+ a little for error ) of what I need...

Thumbs up Re: Money transfers to Thailand from HSBC (UK) - slower and error

Been doing some research on transfers since I'm no longer happy to play the game of Russian roulette that's involved in doing transfers from HSBC, even with their 'great value' deal of a flat fee of...

Re: Money transfers to Thailand from HSBC (UK) - slower and error

Well, that confirms it (or at least confirms it enough for me), it's the different BIC that is the only thing I can think of that's causing the transfers to get charged or, the newness of the 'Payee'...

Re: Money transfers to Thailand from HSBC (UK) - slower and error

Quick update FWIW.

As I'd never had this charge before on literally thousands of transfers I was absolutely certain this was just an input error HSBC end; no such luck. HSBC responded to an...

Re: Money transfers to Thailand from HSBC (UK) - slower and error

Thanks. Yeah I've looked at Transferwise before and while the exchange rate is indeed very slightly better it works out to be not that worthwhile for me.

Example:

I just transferred £1,600...

Re: Money transfers to Thailand from HSBC (UK) - slower and error

Yes, but I'm not really sure what that has to do with anything here? If you transfer £200 from Bank A in the UK to Bank B in Thailand, £200 should arrive at Bank B, regardless of what the bank's...

Re: Money transfers to Thailand from HSBC (UK) - slower and error

The transfer from yesterday arrived today at the anticipated conversion rate and was not 'short'.

Still waiting a reply from HSBC regarding the shortage from yesterday though I guess it'll take...

Thumbs down Money transfers to Thailand from HSBC (UK) - slower and error

I have the good 'fortune' to have a HSBC account in the UK (you know, 'The World's local bank' - unless you live in Thailand!). I was always impressed with the speed of the transfers to Thailand...

Re: MM2H Foreigner e-gate

I recently exited Penang Airport and the IO asked me if I had an e-Gate card yet. Was pretty tired so too lazy to get into a discussion about it but when I said no she suggested going and...

Re: Experience of renewing UK passport from overseas

Having filled in an online complaint form I received yet another mail from the 'e-service team' today who NOW advise that the old passport can take 10-14 days to arrive from the date the new one his...

Re: Experience of renewing UK passport from overseas

Just by way of an update, I filled in the online enquiry form for HMPO to ask about when I might expect to receive my old passport. I also asked for the courier tracking number. In fairness the...

Re: Experience of renewing UK passport from overseas

50% there. New passport arrived after 5 weeks so it seems they MAY be getting the processing times down, still a FAR cry from the 3-5 days service offered by the Embassies not so long ago. Happy...

Re: Experience of renewing UK passport from overseas

Before you start spitting out insults, which as far as I am concerned are getting somewhat close to the mark on the 'personal attack' front, you might want to familiarise yourself with the 'quote'...

Quite where you come to the conclusion that I hold the UK in disregard is beyond me so kindly refrain from putting words in my mouth! Maybe it would help if you just read the facts as posted rather...

Re: Experience of renewing UK passport from overseas

But this thread has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the benefits of a UK passport over a passport from elsewhere, not even remotely. Sorry but I say again, the SOLE theme of this thread is the...

Re: Experience of renewing UK passport from overseas

Sorry, but precisely WHAT relevance visa free access and dual nationality has to passport processing times is totally beyond me? Apples and Oranges really and, in terms of the subject of this...

Re: Experience of renewing UK passport from overseas

Indeed! Also grates that what are considered 'developing (2nd World) countries' like Thailand and Malaysia manage to supply THEIR citizens with a 60 page , 5 year passport within 4-7 days at a cost...

Re: Experience of renewing UK passport from overseas

Complete shambles this isn't it. Typical efficiency drive (read cost cutting) stuff. Amazes me when they talk of demand over and above the norm. Yah but you just shut all the regional...

Re: Driving in Malaysia on a UK licence

I actually found obtaining the Malaysian Licence quite easy, the trick to it I think is to persevere until you get to speak to a JPJ officer who knows what the system is (e.g. that which is generally...

Re: moving to Ipoh with family this spring and having a massive panic attack!!

Ipoh's a great place, lots to see and do and some superb food, outstanding bak-kut-teh there and I've had the best curry mee ever in the town square in the early hours.

I have quite a few friends...

Re: Moped hire in Patong

Old thread but there may be others who pass by the forum with the same question. I would only ever use 'Cheap as Chips' in Patong / Phuket. Great company, run / owned by a Thai lady (Cat) and her...
