Correct - legally it has to be on Canadian soil and rightly so i think.

Completed the ceremony online while in Toronto, they do ask at the time along with some other brief questions.

From what i understand the certificate (which is required for passport application) will not be received that quick. Possibly 2 to 4 weeks.

So I am going to just have that sent to me in the UK...

I have a residential address in Canada which i will rent short term when I am away to a friend so will always be someone to collect and open my mail if needed.

Seems like a coin toss but it does give 180 days to pick it up so that is fine and gives me enough time to return with a PRTD or...

Just updating this for others

Process for PRTD was painless, went to the VAC in London and submitted everything.

Received passport and PRTD within a week however never returned to Canada due...

In the checklist it states "original and valid passport" - which is not something I want to do if this...

Because I do not know what the future holds. I am not young enough to be carefree but I am not old enough to think I will sit in one place long enough, especially when I am expanding my client base...

Toronto has a terrible transit system, not sure where the excellent comes from in the above? Especially if you ever want to catch a bus in the cold. Usual 5 turning up at the same time after waiting...

I went back to the UK and then Asia to set up my own business, partnering with my ex employers in Canada. My intention was always to move back once I have things set up and earning more than enough...

Considering they sent my appointment last week, I doubt a PRTD would have been processed in time.

I had a second message sent and it was the same document as above but this time the Option B had been highlighted in yellow.
I guess since I can not contact CIC outside of Canada...
