Re: Move to US from UK and searching for work

Stick at it. It's very hard to get a job offer in the US without already having a work permit or being a citizen, but not impossible. It took me 3 years of applications being ignored, but finally I...

Bank transfers

I've been told by my bank (Sandy Spring) that they won't do an international wire of funds to my UK account via their on-line banking system or telephone system, but I have to go to a branch an do it...

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

Weetabix seems to be available all over the place. Trader Joe's has it. Even my local food supermarket "Synders" has it.

Brought a Ribena at Giant over the weekend and chocolate digestives,...

Re: New link for British TV

Good news - I've got BBC iPlayer working in the US (recorded programmes only, not live, but that's OK with me).

No more feeling annoyed that I've paid my licence to fund the BBC, but am not able...

Re: Hello from Silver Spring, MD

Thanks for the advice on the driver's licence. I've already been told by an ex-pat who is now naturalised that the MD driving test is far easier than the UK one. Even though I took mine 30 years...

Hello from Silver Spring, MD

Well, I finally made it - shiny new H-1B (just got in before the cap looked like filling up), living in Silver Spring and working in Rockville (both are just to the north of Washington DC). Wish me...

Brass Band in Rockville, MD (just north of Washington DC)

I am an ex-pat conducting the Rockville Brass band, a brass band in the British style. We're always on the look out for new players to join the ranks - ex-pats will be made especially welcome.
