Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

Re: You know you've been living in the US too long when .....

Thankfully I haven't gotten to that bit and hopefully never will. I always use a knife and I really don't understand the practice just using the fork to eat a meal that requires cutting. It's still...

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

I have been using Pataks since I got here. It's been a godsend! Curry was relatively new to my wife's family when I came along.

Re: You know you've been living in the US too long when .....

I don't think they misunderstand me, it's more a case of them thinking for a second "What's a tomahto?" and sometimes I've repeated it the same way and they've gone "Oh, okay Tomayto!" I don't...

Re: Bittersweet UK trip!

Been here in Texas for coming on 9 years now. I've only been back home once and that was in 2014. At that point I'd only been away for 4 years but still, going back to Wales and the town I grew up...

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

For $3.50 a 500ml bottle though! It's hard when you know you can probably get two 2 litre bottles for a quid in Poundland back home!

Re: UK Foods in the US Share your finds!

I have found plenty of British sections in my local grocery stores here in Austin, Fiesta has a great selection sometimes too but they were cleared out when we went at Christmas! All the other expats...

Re: Oh Noes! Chocolate wars...

I have yet to see anyone speaking up in defence of Hershey and its "chocolate" and even the trolls are silent. How in the name of sanity have Hershey managed to keep up their "chocolate" empire for...

Re: Imitating Our Accents

Yeah some people mistake my accent as being a very mild Liverpool accent. It comes from years of playing Paul McCartney in a Beatles tribute band. It's extremely mild though and I think after 5 years...

Re: Imitating Our Accents

I've had a checkout girl say I sound like Benedict Cumberbatch but that's probably because she was a Benedict Cumberbatch fan and ANYONE from England will sound like him to her. Others seem too shy...

Re: Intolerance to US foods?

I think I noticed a change in the taste of things a little bit but no intolerance. One of the thing that amused me when I first visited America was Cool Whip. It's delicious but give me real whipped...

Re: Imitating Our Accents

Aside from people in person not recognising I have an accent that much, I have some hilarious phone conversations over here. Much more entertaining than I ever had in Britain. The best one was with a...

Re: Imitating Our Accents

Usually what I get asked is "Is that a British or an Australian accent?"

One day I'm going to reply: "I can't decide myself actually"

Bob, in these interesting private elocution lessons,...

Re: Imitating Our Accents

I can imagine it being annoying if someone was doing it all the time. Especially if they were bad at the accent in the first place.

Imitating Our Accents

Had an odd thing happen to me when I stopped at a Wendy's in Childress, TX a few days ago. The girl behind the counter taking my order started to imitate my accent. Not in a mocking way or anything...

Re: Wish I was back in the UK!

I used to think Mince Pies were awful too but then my tastebuds changed and I'd only just gotten into them when I left the UK for good.

I must admit, I am a little out of touch with TV back in...
