Savings over 16,000gbp can be used to make up any deficit in income using the following formula.

16,000 + (18,600- income x 2.5)

So assuming no income, the required amount would be 62,500gbp.

Sian, in an earlier post you said that you don't plan to move until June or July 2014.
Remember, the earliest you can submit your online application is 3 months before the intended date of travel.

Everyone has to answer 3.2 regardless which method they use to meet the financial requirements. As your children have British passports, the answer will be 18,600gbp

You can accept gifts of cash but you cannot borrow the money.

Whilst you are permitted to accept gifts of cash towards the savings requirement, you should be aware that the money cannot be borrowed.

I'm not sure that it matters all that much which you put as, if granted, the applicant would be entitled to work. It's an issue which you could address, with explanation, in your cover letter.
