Re: Arrived last week in Vancouver - useful facts (I hope)

Before it became Benton Brothers, it was called Forsters (i believe) and I took a sample of blue cheese that looked like it was fizzing! I could taste it for a week afterwards.

Both great...

Re: Leasing/renting - Vancouver

A good walk around the west end will yield results, as they post vacancies on signs outside the properties. Also, the west end has several community noticeboards where people advertise for flatmates...

Re: Arrived last week in Vancouver - useful facts (I hope)

1a. Very first thing to do was to get mobiles for me and wife. We brought our unlocked phones over from the UK so we only wanted a monthly plan with a SIM card. Very expensive compared to UK. ...

Re: Vancouver Real Estate Roller Coaster

That is an awesome sim!

Well, if trend analysts like Gerald Celente et al are to be believed, the ending is spot on.

Re: Handling the transition

We ran out and bought a bunch of stuff from Sears, and still to this day look back and say "what were we thinking!".

If I were in your position, i'd hawk craigslist to see what people were selling...

Re: Finding work for FSW

IF you're going to write your resume and cover letter, make sure you highlight your key skills and experience as early as possible in the document. Don't make a hiring manager audit your document to...

Re: CV/Resume Writer in Calgary Area

As others have said, you don't necessarily need a resume writer in a particular city.

I've written resumes and provided interview coaching for clients across Canada, and throughout the UK. I've...

Re: Canadian jobs situation

I've worked for 2 of the most prominent search firms in Alberta. I can pretty much guarantee you that 100% fees don't exist.

On top of that, the legal recruitment field is notorious for low...

Re: Canadian jobs situation

It's possible, but highly unlikely. I believe the main legal recruiting firm here in Vancouver charge less than 10% of the employees salary. So, a Lawyer earning $70,000 would yield a $7,000 fee...

Re: Canadian jobs situation

Two things;

Firstly, I'm not a recruiter anymore, so there's no incentive for me to 'push' anything. It is unfortunate that you didn't check my public profile more carefully before insinuating...

Re: Canadian jobs situation

The emphasis was on "part of your job search.." as in should be part of, as opposed to the main thrust.

Having said that, I see no reason why any immigrant would actively shy away from an expert...

Re: rangers v celtic i need to see it

I have to disagree! Both sides of the old firm would hammer Toronto FC. I think Hearts and Hibs would beat them soundly as well.

A decent Toronto FC comparable would be Dundee or Raith Rovers.

Re: Temporary accommodation in Vancouver?

If it's just the beach you're after, then perhaps the 'West End' would be a suitable alternate to Kits. You'd be close to Robson/Downtown core, Stanley Park, and of course English Bay with it's...

Re: Canadian jobs situation

[QUOTE=JonboyE;8792714]Certainly talk to recruitment consultants to get information about the job market, but don't just rely on them. The job market works differently here. Recruitment consultants...

As others have said, give it a bit longer. The...

I've written many resumes for people coming to Canada, and having worked as a recruiter in both countries, I can say that if I were to have received a "Canadian Resume", I'd be looking for a few...

Re: Flying to Toronto on the 8th Sept with BUNAC

I've seen UK resumes that would make quick acquaintance with the shredder due to the sheer size of them (5+...

Re: The House Price Myth?

There was an article in the Vancouver press over the weekend with some experts predicting a 30% "correction" in the not-too-distant future. We'll see - they've been predicting a correction for a...
