One of the most important things to remember is "Telling Ain't Selling"! Merely telling a prospective employer what you have done places you firmly in the middle of the (job) chasing pack.
Thinking about your accomplishments, unique identifiers, potential to deliver value added services/expertise etc is vital if you're to stand out. Your friend should incorporate this type of information into the document.
So long as the document has Education/Professional Experience/Skills sections, you shouldn't be missing anything vital. If the job description calls for additional details, they should of course be incorporated - so cross reference the resume with the job description.
On top of that there is design - but that's a different thread.
