I am in a similar position, except don't have any family health issues to worry about. I got my PR in 2009 when the credit crunch hit and jumping to another country was the only option....

Sounds like we are in similar positions, I am an accountant but it is probably the same deal with recruitment etc. Orginally I did my recces to Vancouver. The job market is pretty bad...

I have stayed at the YMCA hotel which is pretty centrally located in downtown, cheap and basic but clean and secure. Not sure what the set up for families is but it might suit?
