Do you really feel so discriminated against?
I couldn't give the monkey's proverbials as to why people are here. We're here for all sorts of reasons. I'm here...

Re: ID cards in Spain

Yes, I agree that words and phrases change.
Yes, people here and elsewhere overseas left the UK to emigrate of their own free will.
Even if they are fleeing from the law, debt, whatever, it was...

Re: A Life in the UK or Spain?

It would seem from the definition of expatriate that most Brits here really should be defined as immigrants as they most certainly haven't withdrawn allegiance to their native country. And why...

Re: A Life in the UK or Spain?

Yes, that's true. I did A-Level Latin too.:)
So you have both words to choose from.
But it's strange how Brits who call themselves 'expats' rarely extend the courtesy to foreign immigrants to the...

Re: ID cards in Spain

Yes, that's true.
But I maintain that to use the phrase to describe Brits or Germans here is inaccurate. People weren't 'displaced', they left of their own free will.

Re: ID cards in Spain

By our own choice and of our own free will.
I don't feel like an 'outsider' - I pay most of my tax in the UK and some here in Spain as well.
I can vote in local and EP elections here and for a long...

Re: ID cards in Spain

It was your choice to leave the UK and abandon your right to vote, though.. The same rule about voting is uniform across the EU, is it not?
You are by self-definition a European....and you can vote...

Re: A Life in the UK or Spain?

Oh yes, I see what you mean. You're right.:)
I had property in Canada, have family there, but couldn't automatically reside there permanently so I know how difficult it is to get residency.
But...

The word is simply descriptive and is applied to a person who leaves his/her...

Re: A Life in the UK or Spain?

You are an immigrant to Spain, bottom line. Shame you've brought your prejudices with you.
When I see tv...
