Re: Things you have done in Canada that you would never have done back home....

Agree! I've driven in the UK and in Italy, so I am familiar with two different sets of roundabout rules but I've still seen some very strange roundabout navigation in Vancouver - what is the actual,...

Re: Moving back to UK

I hope that it is okay to ask a quick question here rather than starting a brand new thread - as I don't mean it to be a full-on big topic and none of you have bitten my head off (yet) when I post.

Also to Delboy: Thank you both for your replies earlier. I would have responded sooner but I've been offline!

Re: Moving back to UK

I've been in Vancouver (South West suburbs) since October 08. Entered Canada formally as a Landed Immigrant in December 09.

Just FYI: I had no issues with living in the UK at all. I really...

Re: Moving back to UK

I cannot help it - I love this thread. Thank you for the to/fro discussion, it's distracted me from watching the local squirrels population racing backwards and forwards along our back yard fence...

Re: Vancouver (a few personal pros and cons)

Thank you, I found that website just before I found this forum but I haven't become a member yet - I'll keep an eye out for events.

Re: Now i need help deciding what to do, very confused, and no one to ask

Thank you for the link - it's a cautionary read. I haven't come across anyone in Canada (yet) who has had a bad experience using a professional/company to help them navigate the immigration process....

Re: Vancouver (a few personal pros and cons)

Yep, Strathcona was the first place I went to that felt like places I have lived in the past. Not affluent, a feeling of community and a real mixture of different people. I like it over there.

Re: Vancouver (a few personal pros and cons)

I was being lighthearted about the weather - apologies. Dead on though November 1st - hosepipe! I hope that I will get used to it as I think that I am going to have to stay in Vancouver for at...

Re: Vancouver (a few personal pros and cons)

Only over 3 months - are you sure?! It feels like it rains here pretty much everyday between October and March! ;)

I thought that I was ready for the rain (my husband, then bf, told me how...

Re: Vancouver (a few personal pros and cons)

I was down there for a photography class in the Autumn, just before they had the opening of the shops in the building on the old Woodward site and I've been listening radio updates since; I must go...

Re: Vancouver (a few personal pros and cons)

It would be lovely to have a watering hole within walking distance of the house - sadly, there is not even a Cactus Club close-by. We are between Marpole and Kerrisdale (closer to Marpole), so there...

Re: Vancouver (a few personal pros and cons)

:) My pleasure. I think that Vancouver has an international reputation for being one of the best places to live on earth? What I have found from living here day-to-day, is that it is a fairly...

Re: Now i need help deciding what to do, very confused, and no one to ask

Correct. :) I only meant to comment on the personal aspect of it though - not the immigration part. It came across in the original post that the OP was as much worried about that, as the...

Re: Now i need help deciding what to do, very confused, and no one to ask

If you have an immigration consultant, I would ask them what they recommend and how getting married sooner / later might be seen by US Immigration on your application (positively or negatively)...

Vancouver (a few personal pros and cons)

:) Vancouver Good:

I guess that the main things would be its proximity to skiing/hiking/biking/sailing etc. types of activities (if you can afford to do them). Also, it is rare to have...

Re: Vancouver Winter Olympics

Some of the posts in this forum have really made me smile.

I like the Olympian-Homeless Buddy idea very much. Perhaps, if the idea of buddying athletes with homeless people from the DTES is too...

Thank you for writing this - I have only just come across this site and it's a relief to read that I am not the only one who has struggled during their first year here and to read that things do...
