It took us 3 months to get the acknowledgement letter.

ECAS was updated 2 or 3 weeks before we received the letter so you could check online using your client ID.

Hi,

CIC received our application on July 17th, our account on Ecas was updated around Sept 30th and we received our letter of acknowledgement on October 18th.

I have just checked ECAS using the client ID I was given when I applied for PR and it finally came back with something...

It shows that our application is "In Process" and it says:

I guess I’ll just have to be patient! I thought it only took 6 to 8 weeks to get the letter of acknowledgement and the book.

We used www.confortmontreal.com. So far the service has been great but it won't be of very usefull to you as it's only for Montreal. Sorry.

I believe that I left France such a long time ago that once in Canada, if I feel homesick it will be because I miss Scotland rather than France. I have never been in touch with the french community...

I don't think it makes any difference where you apply for your SIN Number but I might be wrong...

Thanks for that. I didn't have to pay when I opened my UK account last year. My account is not a premier account. I am not sure if it makes a difference or not.

I have checked HSBC.ca website and it seems you can open an HSBC Passport account free of charge. It seems however that you need to go to a local branch in Canada to activate your account...
