Re: Help! Shipping LA to London?

The one I always recommend on here Scumachers. We moved in 2011 from LA back to London. Their packers were excellent, think we dealt with Greg Speed, sorry memory's a bit hazy!

Re: I'm moving back in a few weeks!

Hi, we moved back in 2011 and we used Schumachers for the removals. I've recommended them on here before and will do so again. They were very good and they weren't the most expensive. Think we dealt...

Re: Which company did you take to move from NY back to UK?

Another vote for Schumachers here. We moved from the West Coast (can't remember how much it cost - think around $3,000), and they were very good. As Rusty said packers and unpackers at both ends were...

Re: How long to re establish credit history before you can get a mortgage?

We moved back Sept 11, I started work in Oct 11 and was offered a mortgage with HSBC around the end of April 2012 (also qualified with Barclays), but our LTV was approx 50%.

All the best!

Re: Moral Dilemma - School !

Honestly, as you are what I would do, I wouldn't even think about it, let alone feel I have a moral dilemma to deal with.

Re: The Real NHS

Oh I'm so with you on this. I lived in CA for 10 years and it was very expensive. I was covered through work, to cover my family (husband + 2 kids) was $945 a month. That was an 80/20 policy with...

Re: Hopes dashed on buying a home so soon?

Re: Should I tip my dentist ?

I don't understand why you think you would tip your dentist! I'm doing a Jimmy Royle head shake thing as I type (just watched the Christmas special).

Re: Felt like saying,"None of your damn business!"

A few years ago when entering at Heathrow on my UK passport I was asked why I was visiting the UK, did think it was odd but just smiled and said I was visiting family.

Re: moving back to uk with children

One thing I would consider is how over subscribed are the schools in the area you want to move to.

We moved back last summer to a London borough, my daughter would be going into Y1 but the...

Re: What makes for a successful move back to the UK?

Exactly this! We've just moved back (about 2 months) after 10 years in LA, and it really has been an adjustment. Even though, we've been lucky enough to find jobs and all our family is here, and for...

Re: 7 weeks in - update

Thank you.

I think I was lucky to find work so quickly as the agents did say it was very slow and it may take some time for me to find something. One agent thought me being away for 10 years would...
