Best way to transfer money from house sale to UK bank account

I am moving back to England next month after 10 years in the US... We are selling our US home and will want to move the resulting sum of money into our UK bank account.

We file jointly in the US and as my wife would be a USC on a visa we would still have to file for her. So maybe filing is not such a big issue if I were to be a USC also...

Yes, I was born in the UK - so it sounds straight forward for my son.

Unfortunately my wife has no UK, Commonwealth ancestry so we would have to go the visa route...
