Re: Road Associations - Anyone have any experience of them?

Not sure of the exact reasons but something to do with the width and composition of the road.

We really just want a basic road association, but others seem to want an HOA that buys loads of...

Re: Road Associations - Anyone have any experience of them?

We were members of the original HOA which wanted to disband, and that was agreed by a majority vote. The original HOA covered a much larger area than our road, but the other roads were public so our...

Re: Road Associations - Anyone have any experience of them?

As you say it's a total mess, mainly because the self-appointed president is power crazy and clueless! The road was owned by an HOA which was in good standing when property was purchased so there...

Re: Road Associations - Anyone have any experience of them?

When we bought the place there was an HOA that covered a lot or properties. That's been disbanded so those of us on the private road now need a road association, which is fine, but the issue is that...

Re: Road Associations - Anyone have any experience of them?

Thanks for the advice. Thinking we'll try talking to one of the neighbours who seems to have been involved in an HOA.

Re: Road Associations - Anyone have any experience of them?

Yes, it's a holiday home, as are around 80% of the properties. As far as we can understand there hasn't been any meetings, elections, etc. as the person who collected the $ keeps promising to set one...

Road Associations - Anyone have any experience of them?

We have a cottage in NH which is on a private road. We had to establish a Road Association with the other properties on the road earlier this year. So far there has been an introductory meeting but...

Importing a car from the US

Anyone imported a used car bought from a private seller in the US into Canada in the last 12 months (since they introduced the new documentation)? Would be interested in any experiences, good or bad,...

Re: Buying a car from out of state (or even out of country)

Car is from a dealer so there's a chance they'd do the paperwork, but they're a small independent so it may not be something they do a lot of. The car wouldn't be driven all the time but enough to...

Buying a car from out of state (or even out of country)

We're looking for some advice as we've found a car we'd like to buy. Problem is that we're resident in Canada, the car is in OH, and we have a holiday place in NH. We'd like to keep the car in NH but...

Re: PEI, NB or NS?

Interesting - we were told it was a Moncton specific tax, and that seemed to be supported by the fact that there were a lot more rentals in Saint John. Maybe the property taxes are cheaper there so...

Re: PEI, NB or NS?

Moncton operates a double taxation tenant tax, so we found the rental options much more limited than in Saint John, Halifax, etc.

Re: Emigrate From UK to USA

Ian,
I said higher SALES taxes and was comparing 15% in Canada to 5% - 8% in the US.

Ref. customer service - we were quoted 4-6 weeks to get cable / internet service (in this century!!) and they...

Re: Emigrate From UK to USA

Canada is nothing like the US, despite being the next door neighbour. Customer service is appalling, prices sky high - despite parity with USD most items are 30%+ higher (and the price tags display...

Re: Shipping dog question

Actually BA gave us the name of a shipping company because they could get a better price than BA could offer me directly. Think the saving was about 10%.

Do you have recommendations from other people for this realtor? What's his sales record like with...

Re: Help - need a good moving company in Halifax, Truro or Moncton

That's interesting - Thank You. I didn't realise that Pickfords had any branches in the Maritimes. Will do a search and see if I can find their local branch to come in and quote.

Re: Wales UK to New Brunswick

As you say, it's all about scale - Moncton is definitely not like the majority of UK cities I've visited, however I did get lost in at least 2 of the 'estates' when house hunting  - there were...
