Re: Newly Opened Flyovers

Most of what you wrote is irrelevant. Discovery Gardens has always been a place where people lived because it the only place they could afford if they worked in the south end of Dubai or even Abu...

Re: Newly Opened Flyovers

Not everyone in Dubai is a western expat making tens of thousands a month.

People live in Discovery Gardens because it's the cheapest place to live on that side of town. And they can't afford JLT...

Re: Newly Opened Flyovers

Your post pretty much summarises much of what's wrong with planning in Dubai.

Discovery Gardens? Oh, only lowly paid people live there. Why waste money on them? Let them suffer.

DIFC? Oh, all...

Re: If If you were a brand, which one would you be?

Apparently the folks went to the stork's office and filled out a list of priorities: male please as we already have a daughter, must be blond, no more than 185cm at maturity, if he's fat we're taking...

Re: If If you were a brand, which one would you be?

I thought about this for a long time till I realised what the problem was.

I'm not a brand. I'm a one-off. Custom made to order :D

Re: If If you were a brand, which one would you be?

No, you mean: 'once from a top drawer family but is no longer respected or admired in A-list circles as has sacrificed taste and class in the quest for fame and is cheapened by the newfound...

Re: Scottish Independence - Yes or No?

Hope and dreams are always attractive. The nitty gritty reality isn't always so.

There are problems facing Scotland which are similar to problems faced elsewhere in England but the overall...

Re: Scottish Independence - Yes or No?

What I said was simple enough. Scotland's biggest trading partner, by an enormous margin, is the rest of the UK. Scotland also imports from the rest of the UK by a big margin. Scotland is still very...

Re: Scottish Independence - Yes or No?

You're right. The Austrians probably don't care that people outside Austria don't know who the premier is. The typical Scot may not care for any international prestige either and are content to be...

Re: Scottish Independence - Yes or No?

Interestingly enough in the 2011 election the SNP did win a majority of seats but only 45% of the popular vote. In other words the majority of people in Scotland did not vote for the SNP or their...

Re: Scottish Independence - Yes or No?

The residents of Australia, Canada etc were never citizens of the UK with voting rights in the UK. These places were clearly designated as colonies or dominions and there was never serious attempt to...

Re: Married or not

I am getting something from one of your listed designers...

Mrs. E does like Edwardian jewellery. She has a few brooches from her grandmother. Her taste is eclectic, what can I say.

Re: How The Guardian reported the formation of the UAE

I was having a Millhouse moment.

In all honesty there's not much to be said about the article despite that they gave us a few genuine nuggets. Iran claimed RAK?

At the time 1/3 of the...

Re: Married or not

Did you report it on your taxes?

I have to admit that there's a part of me slightly worried in that I'm spending quite a lot on something that isn't purely diamonds or sapphires or emeralds....

I can see where you're coming from.

But not this particular piece. It's a one-off.

I'll keep Sue Tyson's name down for the future.

Re: Married or not

My attitude towards diamonds is that there's no point unless you can fork over serious money for the super high quality ones. But can't afford it. Rather thankfully as I find diamonds boring although...

Re: Married or not

Yummy mummy jewellery, eh?

What I'm getting for Mrs. Ethos is sort of in the same genre but the stones are a mix of very good quality hand blown glass and the better semi-precious stones. It's...

Re: Married or not

Yeah. I know.

It's the same with certain types of antique shops. Pretentious twats.

I was once told it's because the shops will give a different price depending on who's contacted them. If...

Re: Married or not

Oy vey.

Ironically you're slightly along the right track. Mrs. E likes chunky jewellry and these tribal style necklaces made out of blown glass and/or rock crystal.

Re: Married or not

Let me get this straight.

Something like pearls is too boring and conventional and dooms you to twinsets.

Something like the necklace is too fake hippy chic.

What does that leave me with?
