Aeroguard works a bit but Tea tree oil and Cintronella seem to be the best but if you come up with a sure fire 100% method you will be richer than Bill Gates ! :D

Don't buy fridge/freezers to take to OZ.
The compressors are not big enough and they will struggle with the temperature.
Lucky if you get 6 months from one because they will run almost continually.

Traditionally they were wood yes. However, these days they are cardboard boxes of roughly the same size.
IIRC thay are called "pack 2's"

I can recommend Pickfords. We have used them a few times...
