Its the January 'Dryathlon'. If I do it without missing alcohol at all it could be a permanent change and I will become one of those twats that goes out only for the works Xmas party and falls asleep.

Good luck. I'll donate a tenner, plus the tenner which Scamp sponsored me for last year. Having started Dryathlon on 1st Jan last year, I returned to AD only to be made redundant the day I got back, so a few beers were had to get over the shock and so on. And I'm not tempting fate again this year, seeing as I'm flying back to sunny Morocco tomorrow...

My New Year's resolution: replace 2 high-salt Korean meals each day with home-made veg juice, and go to the gym at least 4 times a week.

Thank you Bahtat, I really appreciate it. I have PM'd the link to my justgiving page. Its worth £10 just to look at my begging drunken picture on there.

In support I'm not boozing until Feb now too. Brunch on Friday is going to be interesting, I might really enjoy the food?

Good man. I'm avoiding brunches though it would make a novel change to eat more than my usual slice of beef mash potato and floret or broccoli. May plan one for the last weekend as the ultimate challenge to my resolve.

Usually I stay sober for a couple of months a year, just to prove I can. After a couple of days, you're OK. After all, remember the saying- One's too many. two's not enough...

That little ditty is why I go on the wagon every now and again.

To be honest, I don't drink during the week, so it's just weekends. We've got this brunch but will drive and try to enjoy the tucker, then I'll schedule a round of golf early doors on Saturday with the mrs. Thursday night might be tough as we'll stay in, cook a nice meal and would normally have a beer and a some wine. Still, I think I'll be alright.

I'm keen to prove I can, that's the main thing.

I've not drank since NYE (inclusive) - and found it surprisingly easy. We did a brunch on Friday and never missed the booze, just enjoyed the food a lot more.

The big plus is that weekends are far more productive, it's a great feeling waking up on Friday/Saturday without a hangover, go to gym then use the rest of the day up without spewing/sleeping.

Yep, that's what I'm hoping for. Had a golf lesson yesterday and basically a new swing, so need to hit the range a lot now. Early morning session at the weekends will be nice I think. Even though I do play well when hungover...

Plus, there must be some health benefits too?

No. Not during week, unless I (rarely) go to meet for a beer or something.

Yes :-) a couple of glasses of wine in the evening after I finish classes, A bottle or 3 of bubbly over the weekend.. more if we go for brunch.

HOWEVER!!! I too have stopped drinking, for at least a month, if not longer, I haven't put a time limit on it so that I don't feel any pressure, I did the same when I stopped smoking and am now 4 years smoke free :-D

I have decided to do other things this year, I am taking skiing lessons soon, I am going bowling, for the very first time ever this week :-)
I have a total fear of water, but I am considering taking a trail scuba lesson to try and overcome that, then I hope to start sailing lessons.. still not sure about this though:eek:
I am getting more involved with my charity work http://www.justgiving.com/nepalchildfreedom and I plan to volunteer to help the disabled riding thing they have here.
Anyway, wish me luck, if I can do half of these things I will do well :D:D

I'm shit scared of the sea, but did my PADI and and it doesnt worry me at all when diving.

It's well worth doing - I did it at JBH Pavilion Dive club over four days.

My problem is that I go into total panic mode if I go out of my depth even in a pool, I can't put my face under water without completely freaking out! Anyway, I will at least give it a go :-) Maybe I will get a friend of mine, who does scuba diving, to come to my pool and help me first before I take a course.
