Just an observation, but this home advantage thing isn't really working for us, is it?

First rule of GB in the Olympics: Never win a gold on Day One (same in Beijing, then we got going.......)

Yeh, fair point. It's the same with the consistently dismal performances in the early stages of the World Cup I guess. It's a funny strategy, I sometimes wonder if it's intention or if we really just cannot perform until we are on the back foot.

Got to say i enjoyed the road race yesterday and on a side note the UK looked fantastic around the downs .

Sun shining , people out on the route . Not a better place on the planet on a day like that .

Sadly I missed it, but where the team really frustrated by the others? I would have expected us to be more gracious in defeat rather than saying 'everyone was against us'... no shit, that's the point of competition, no?

The other teams didn't help but when the second group broke it was always going to be difficult .

Maybe a victim of their own success but still a fascinating race . Wouldn't have minded been sat outside one of those boozers yesterday afternoon in the sunshine watching the race and getting slowly pissed .

The perfect afternoon !

Oh god I miss that sort of shit.

I miss waking up to a text from a mate; "The Alex. Midday. Sunshine. Leo Sayer."

Probably one of the greatest messages ever.

They must have upgraded the bells at St.Mary's if they can be heard in Southampton.

Leo Slayer is cockney rhyming slang. A cockney is someone born within ear shot of the bells of St Mary-le-bow church, London.

Sorry I'm with you now. St. Mary's also happens to be the shit bit of Southampton where they dumped the new stadium.

It's still called a Leo Sayer. Regardless of where you are from.

The GB guys had to do all the pulling and were absolutely spent. Froome and Wiggo gave everything. It was strange watching it unfold though. As the lead pack maintained the 50seconds gap, others seemed simply content to stick to the GB riders rather than put the effort in to bridge the gap. Even when Spartacus crashed, there was no real consolidated effort to get into the race.

Cavendish is pissed off--but he has no right to be really, it was not the job of every other country to set him up for the win, but it must be said, that i thought that many riders happily sacrificed their own medal aspirations to shadow team GB.

I knew it was over when the camera panned onto Wiggo and the commentator "Wiggens is making the effort now to lead the pack"....the camera panned out and he had actually blown and was dropped off the back..:D

Lets see how he does at the TT. With Spartacus now injured or certainly impaired, this should be an exciting race.

Lets not forget the ladies RR today, Nicole Cook defending her title

A Saudi has finally worked out why we all watch the Olympics.

"Whores of the Olympics...They want to run so that they intentionally fall down and reveal (their figures)," said a tweeter under the name @mloven2100, who identified himself as a Saudi.

Maybe this is the record we are aiming for. Go Team GB, I understand you!

Is it just 1 medal for team events? Bloody hope so otherwise football's really gonna distort things.

Plus, I never get the whole Country Medal Leaderboard thing: surely the Olympics is about individual effort, not nation v nation.

And while I'm on a Kingfisher-Strong-Premium-Lager-fuelled-demi-rant, why aren't pro boxers allowed to compete?

Not only but also, thought the men's team archery was good value yesterday, but FFS the US team have lived together for the last FOUR years and trained 12 hours a day. Nice bows, mind.

AND what a shame the Columbian women got knocked out of the volleyball. You know why...

Ask the question the other way. Why are pro-athletes allowed to compete in other events?

I've no idea. Seems all very inconsistent to me. Especially when you pitch the Dream Team against a few tall lads from Birmingham.

Lizzie ArmiTstead (sic) gets a silver in the driving SW London rain (bright sunshine oop north for Brazil's footy) - good girl.

TV coverage has slipped in my view - yesterday gave us an embarrassment of riches, but today too many key events/moments have been missed. Example: I haven't seen Beth Twaddle's bars routine but 16.133 is amazing!

Paula Radcliffe out of the marathon - so she will end her Olympic career (presumably - she's 38) never having won a medal of any colour at any distance. Sad - one of the very best, although many will remember her for having a dump live on TV in front of millions.

GB v UAE in the footy later, live from Wembley.

Pro boxers to be admitted from 2016, I read the other day............ and yes, team sports get ONE medal as do, for example, swimming relays.
