Either the mother was so convincing that the husband was duped. Or she is the dominant partner & coerced him. Or perhaps they were both involved in the accident and the fantasy is a mass-hysteria thing. Like Nazism or the Salem Witch trials...

yes, people can do remarkable things, never thought to be possible...either in positive ways, like staying alive when given up by all the doctors in the world for instance or showing an incredible physical or mental strenght under extreme circumstances....things that you would have said beforehand that it would not ever be possible for a human being to do, and still they did it.
The same can happen in a negative form...for instance covering up the killing of a child...

I always say.. no smoke without fire.. they usually are pretty sure of the evidence before they blame the parents...
I really have not read up enough on the case to make a judgement.. but I really hope they are wrong. For the simple fact that if they are right then that little girl is dead and not kidnapped....
