I am the owner yes. However my point being (and I apologise for being so subtle) that a gun is an inanimate object, ownership does not make me a person likely to carry out illegal acts just as conversely not owning one doesn't make you an model citizen and upholder of the law.

its a funny thing that, having a functional brain.

At what? It's all quite clear, apart from the regicide bit.

Isn't the point that if there were fewer guns, the chances of them getting into the hands of those who aren't model citizens and upholders of the law would be reduced, and therefore there would be less gun related crime.

The number of people who actually need a gun, is far less than the number of people who have one because they think they do.

Yes of course you are right there would be far less gun crime, but in the US I suppose they are upholding the right to bear arms in the sense that the right itself isn't necessarily bad but can have a bad outcomes due to abuse of the right.
The guns I have are obviously sporting related really and are locked in a gun club, so I am not carrying the guns as an American would.
In the ideal world better licensing and policing is the obvious answer to gun crime rather than blanket regulations that affect responsible users also.

Please, do not let us get on to the 'Split Infinitives' such as "To Boldly Go!"
That is the sort of English up with which I will not put.

So, how many mass murderers tried this trick on an annual NRA convention?

There was a similar shooting in Texas 20 years ago and the legislature reacted in a proper way by streamlining the issuing of concealed weapon carrying licenses.

He is powerful and moving in the way Hitler was powerful and moving - through lies and manipulation of human emotions. Although his 'documentaries' seem to be loaded with facts on close examination these facts are carefully framed and manipulated to bring across the desired message. Also, a cursory examination of M. Moore's character, the way he dropped out of school, the way he never put a proper day of work in his life, the way he treats his staff and the high life he enjoys while crying out for a small man - this shows a deeply troubled and unscrupulous guy.

There is always 10% of lunatics and violent criminals in any society. Unless you are ready to run tests to identify these sociopaths and jail them permanently, I will want to have a gun to defend myself and more importantly my family. So one day when some such scumbag breaks into my house or tries to hurt me or my family in a public space, the balance of power is restored. Remember, some people live the life of violence while other go to work and tend to their gardens / barbecues. An average middle class guy with a mortgage and a job stands no chance against a professional scumbag with a knife. He should be given a fair chance, a level playing field at the very least in his own home.

If you sorted out your (?) (are you even in the USA?) you wouldn't need to be so paranoid....

Sorted out my what? Gun? I am in KSA, can't have a gun. I do miss having a gun though. Besides I am speaking on behalf of an ordinary guy. I am ex military with a bit of training, should be able to manage bare-handed versus an average scumbag in my house. Would have no solution for the cinema killing spree other than a well pointed shot at the madman in question. For that, one needs a gun. Failing that, one can only protect the loved ones like the three hero guys who jumped on their girlfriends and protected them from bullets, dying in the process.
