Basically I have a date with a South African guy (didn't realise this was scraping the barrel), and its just been ages since I've been on a proper date (every other sort but not a proper one), I've met the guy a couple of times but don't really know anything about him and can't remember how to behave like a lady (cough cough ahem), always seem to fall into bed which my male friends then tell me off for as they say i should play a little bit harder to get, so thought I'd see what everyone else thinks, would kinda be nice to be chased for a bit (in theory). Also the guy lives in my building (I know its asking for trouble) so don't want to seem like an absolute whore if it all goes horribly wrong!

But if everything goes wrong, his opinion shouldn't be of any importance to you anyhow. And if he thinks of you as a hussy, because you jump on him on the first date, than he isn't the right partner for you.
But if he is into you, he will never care about it!
IMO there is only one rule in dating, that is being real, but since I haven't done any dating in ages, what does my opinion count?

Rock Spider:

A term used to refer to Boer Afrikaaners by English speaking South African whiteys. Used loosely to describe an Afrikaaner guy who drives around in a tractor wearing a safari suit, ranger boots, knee socks and who has never heard of an invention called a roll on deodorant. Usually a pedophile who sits watching rugby while his wife is heavily-pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen fixing him and their five kids a hot plate.

This sounds like a great gig, where do I sign up? I don’t actually have to live in S.A. though do I though? I hear its repressing press freedom to report issues now, every few years it seems to consistently hit a new low :(.

Not so sure about that semi cloggy accent and dialect however.

I love rolling an r sound after vowels (or anywhere there is a spot my lovrrrrr), or just leaving out the occasional “e” and using the word “like” to fill in gaps in sentences. Just a touch of the west country accent http://forums.govteen.com/images/smilies/cloud9.gif.

Re: Dating Etiquette

what's the deal with this 3 dates rule? it's the lamest thing I have ever heard. it sounds like something out of a hollywood chick flick..

maybe it's just us northern europeans who like it more straight to the point. if you like each other why wait 3 dates? my god if all i was after was a lay then there is no way i would wait 3 dates (unless they were all on the same day of course)

now i'm sure some of you will say something like "if you really like someone you don't want to screw it up (no pun intended) on the first date"...

well consider this - how would you know you really like each other unless you've done the deed? would you buy a car without test driving it? (sorry couldn't help myself, i really hate it when people say that, but for some reason it is at least slightly appropriate). now bear in mind i'm not saying skipping the date entirely is appropriate either. you should at least know a little bit about the person before jumping into bed.

of course maybe this is all behaviour which was acceptable a long time ago, ie before i met my lovely wife..

kitty, nothing wrong with saffers, but living in the same building? not so clever...

The three date rule applies if you are looking for something serious and not a quick **** and thanks don't let the door hit you on the way out.

You don't buy a new car at first glance, do you? How many times do you study the car, read about it, visit the dealership and compare it to others before you test drive?

At the end of the day, each to its own. I viewed my apartment three times before I made an offer. I treat women much the same (unless of course I'm drunk and only want a quick jump in the sack). Women who come across too strong during the first date turn me off (I'm happy to oblige but it won't last). I don't like floozies and I ain't taking a floozy home to meet the Mere.

isn't the nicest part the whole build up, the flirting, the texts, the phone calls and stuff...think that's much more fun than getting fcked on the first date.

of course the build-up is fun but what i don't get is that somehow people think that this requires a number of dates. in my opinion going on dates maybe adds a bit of excitement, but it is basically like trying to be too rational about the whole thing. love is not rational! :o

in short; is the ultimate goal to find a soul-mate? if it is you are no more likely to find it by going on a bunch of dates. in fact to me the dates would imply i was trying to convince myself the person is the right one.....

And by the way, I'm definitely not talking about just going out to get laid here. That requires no emotion nor investment!

most cars i have ever bought i knew the second i saw it that it was the perfect car for me. i look, think for a while, discuss with the salesman and take it for a spin. then i spend anything from 2 hours to a week mulling it over (time spent depends on the odds of it going to someone else in the meantime). saying that there have been times i have really liked the car, gone through the motions and then changed my mind later on.
