CV Classics

Re: CV Classics
I always used to bin any CV that had 'socialising' as a hobby or interest. I wasn't interested in employing people who are always late or turn up with hangovers.
Also binned ones that included interests such as 'aerobics' (oh please, it's beyond dull) and 'paying the mortgage' (she must have been beyond dull).

Re: CV Classics
I'd think they were a bit daft. Who cares what kind of films she watches. She should just write 'films' as an interest.

There's also the tendency to understate genuine achievements by classifying them as 'interests'. I heard about an Oxford student who founded "Women In Publishing in Oxford" (or something like that), as a number of talented female writers couldn't get their stuff published. She sorted out contracts, publishers, printers, etc, and set it all up as a not-for-profit jobby.
Her CV called that an 'interest'. An 'interest'?? It's a bloody superb achievement - shout about it..........

Re: CV Classics
Interests are pretty dull.
Can't remember what my bit is titled on my CV but put on about 3 things I'm proud of. Job done. Most of them catch the eye because they aren't the normal shite.
OTher than that I wouldn't bother. Put something interesting or don't put anything.
That being said, some people want to know what people do at the weekends. Just don't be boring.
minefield.

What are good hobbies to put down?
Not that I even have that a hobby section on my CV but very curious as what would count as good hobbies or believable ones.
I guess mine would be cinema, photography and making crap

Re: CV Classics
Been talking / thinking about this. Mine listed are limited, only a few and incorporate some charity shit I did and representing England - that catches a few eyes because it's a bit of a random sport too.
I try and avoid; Cooking, Reading, Gardening, Socialising. Those things aren't that interesting.
But.....
It's up to you, I don't really care what someone puts if they are good for the job. Granted some roles need a bit more of a dynamic type and Stamp Collecting doesn't give a dynamic type perception - for example... even though I know a stamp collector who is mental and a great laugh...i'm just providing an example.
It really doesnt matter at the end of the day, if your CV is good then you're good. Adding interests probably came in to try and stand out and make you look human. Unless there is something there that the reader is interested in it's pretty irrelevant IMHO

Just make sure it's interesting.
