Or, it could be a paradise that only admits one pedant at a time.

More great British things to appease those who have all fallen asleep or shot themselves by now:

Over 1,000 years of rich and varied history
Strikingly beautiful countryside
Pub lunches
Concorde
The EE Lightning
The FA Cup
Jumpers for goalposts

Not taking ourselves too seriously ...

Here is something great in Britain - the cost of renting a home. It's a record high, so therefore very much great.

Surely that should come under Anglo-French things rather than British?

I think the French and the British can claim it equally. Concorde, in British Airways livery is an iconic British sight, that was my angle. It's rather tenuous but I think I have a case ...

You will be suggesting the Channel Tunnel next if you're not careful.

No, I won't.

I will suggest the Forth Rail Bridge though, as a prime example of great British engineering.

Although, good old fashioned barneys with complete strangers over completely unimportant and irrelevant things (since we both live in North America anyway) is another great British tradition. It'd be doubly spectacular if you happened to be French as well
