Ok - no balls to do it yourself, but certainly at the forefront of encouraging it. Might not seem warm and friendly to you, but at least I'm not a coward
Being a part of this conversation throughout I feel I must defend Rosie - as I read it her intention was to seriously warn others about the dangers of selling up and losing out big time. The piss take bit came from doing it on a forum where all those who will defend Oz to the death whatever the circumstances would jump down our throats - and please admit there are some very agressive characters on there. That was the piss take - not the actual subject matter. If we hadn't lost out financially then maybe it would have been a piss take.

I and many others have committed financial suicide by selling up and moving here and if I can stop one other person doing the same then I'll be a happier person. I would advise anyone to keep their home for at least 6 months until they know exactly what it's like here and not what the Australian Government want us to think it's like.
Ah - that was you being marched onto the plane in England by Australian Goverment Officials as they twisted your arm up your back.

My advice not to sell your house is not a wind up. It is my advice based on my experience. Your perception of this is way off the mark.

So why not post it as a 'sensible' thread in the Australia forum. Your intentions may have been 'pure' but your method of message delivery was a poor choice. I have no time for the "UK-bashers", the "UK is great", the "Aussie bashers" or the "Oz is great" groups, and if, as you say, your intentions were serious, I think you seriously misjudged where to post your thread. To declare "Oooh am feeling very mischeivous - please do it and see the reaction." hardly stands you out as someone with altruistic intentions does it?

Hindsight is fantastic, and if we all knew what life had in store for us, that'd be brilliant (or not depending on what is in store )

The sensible thing would be sell up in the UK, keep as much of your cash in the bank for a year or so earning interest, then if you don't like it you have cash there to return with.

That's my point of view, but I wouldn't start a thread specifically to tell everyone about my "fantastic advice" cos it's how I feel and not everyone has the same ideas as me.
i sold my house in the UK from here and it was less hastle that buying down the street . I wish I hadn't but that's the brakes .as for keeping cash in the bank , the first thing people do when things are hard (emotionally )is spend ,need a car buy a nice one -clothes ...what ever .and why else start a thread if not to debate a point of view don't like a point speak against it but be carefull with your personal coments you might not like the reply .why not go to the thread and speak against what i posted and offer your point it may help someone .!!

Err I think it isn't just our mistake when we are fed lies about how things are cheaper here and how this country has better wages etc - and then when we get here its nothing of the sort. Oh and thanks for the understanding - you sound a very caring sort!

As I said - we've been wound up too many times by the Oz is God brigade - it was a serious issue with a mischeivous twist.

Yes, but isn't that doing something half heartedly? Emigrating should not be done like that. If you can't commit all or nothing you shouldn't do it. This is why I think that people should think long and hard before doing this. They have to realise that at the very least it will take a toll both emmotionally and financially. Their standard of living could well drop significently in the short term as well as the emmotional strain of having no family back up. Maybe I should give lectures , to intending migrants in the UK, on the perils of migration. I've been there and done the hard yards.

I'd more say encouraged. Still lies though whichever way you read it.

For goodness sake give it a rest. Aren't we allowed to have some light hearted banter without your analysis. Louise and others on here have struck up, what I would consider to be, a friendship. You have no insight at all where we as a group are concerned.

So then you put in a post which is as guaranteed to start a war as poking a stick at a wasps nest will get you stung -- Sorry if I fail to see your logic here
