Sorry but I don't need anyone to do any comparisons for me - I've done plenty this year believe me. My most recent being a price comparison of Asda and Coles - Asda cheaper as I thought. All my household bills are more expensive here yet income way below what it was in the UK.

Without giving hard data on my household expense, we both earn a little bit less than we did in the UK, supermarket shopping is more expensive, eating out cheaper, car Insurance cheaper, fuel cheaper, general household bills (electricity, rates, insurance etc) work out a bit cheaper but not much. Mortgage is bigger here but on the whole I'd say we come out a bit over even. That's just us of course, not eveyone!

You come on here criticising people for daring to suggest winding others up and then you do exactly that! What is it? Do as I say not as I do?

..and we didn't do anything half heartedly. We sold up on the very basis that it would be tough and that having a home in the UK would perhaps make it too easy to go back.. and I still say that selling our home was a bloodly stupid thing to do. There is always an assumption from the Oz is God members that those of us who don't feel the same got something wrong.. we didn't do enough research, we came with false perceptions..etc. Well you're wrong, we came, we saw and for us, it sucks.

Sorry - you must have misinterpreted my tongue in cheek remark about the people you meet on the internet as a wind-up. Obviously I have no concept of humour and shan't try it again.

Exactly! We were fed the lines that we would earn more and shopping etc. would be much less. It isn't and for us (hubby is a bricky) it's being particulary difficult - in fact his wages are less than half. And when people are giving up their houses, jobs and lives that's pretty cruel lies in my book. It seems to me that the Australian Government is making a decent living out of all the visa applications, investments and other money that immigrants are bringing into this country. Don't get me wrong, I blame ourselves much more than anyone else for buying into these lies - it was our choice, no-one forced us here but am also very angry that we are fed such blatent propaganda.

why the hell must emigrating be done by selling you life and soul.you don't have to sell every thing to move it is prudent planning to accept things can go wrong does mean your not commited just makes you smarter than the average bear .if you run a business would you not plan for bad things, things not working ?

I'd only sell my soul for a fiddle made of Gold - Good old Charlie Daniels, I wonder what happened to him?

Totally agree with here - it's always assumed that we didn't try hard enough, didn't really want it to work, expected too much, didn't investigate it properly, just can't cope with life outside the UK, can't exist without our favourite brand of sauce etc. etc.

We must really be such stupid people not to love having less than half our UK income, to be paying out more each month on bills etc., to have a weekend away in a different part of the state instead of 3 nice holidays abroad, to enjoy having a takeaway on a Saturday night as a treat because we can't afford a restaurant. Oh what ungrateful stupid people we are.

People who know me think I am a caring person. However, I have no sympathy with people who blame others for their mistakes. I was in UK in July and could not believe how much more expensive basic food items were than they are here. Don't know who fed you what lies, but surely you,as an adult, can separate fact from fiction.
