For me it was the realization that " O.K if I stay here this is my life : See my family for a week or two each year at best, all the while my parents grow older, my nephews grow up and I'm barely in their lives anymore, I'm surrounded by fake, shallow, materialistic people, I'm paying an arm and a leg in taxes, insurance etc, etc and eventually I'll grow old wither and die with no one around that gives a sh**t " .
Sorry if that's too maudlin but it's the truth - it's really made me think. Like a lot of people say "Stuff" is just stuff, family & friends are what count for everything in life. |

Isn't it YOU though that is fake, shallow and materialistic. You were the one that came to the US, probably to enjoy a big house, big car, and a certain lifestyle. You left your family for all those shallow reasons. Now you realise that you miss them, and don't want to stand up and say how shallow you are. Americans aren't leaving in droves to go to the UK, Aussie, NZ and Canada searching for a "better lifestyle."
I live in a small rented apartment, I drive a small cheap car and I originally moved here to pursue a sporting career not a "better lifestyle" as I knew it would be no better than were I came from. Sounds like I hit a raw nerve, what's your real problem ? |

Americans are brainwashed into believing this is the best country in the world, and although it has some wonderful points, it is far from the best.
I suppose you always get a minority of pathetic, spiteful people wherever you go - even here. |

Yup, and I thought this forum was made up of a supportive group of people, helping each other to deal with the troubles & decisions they face day to day.

I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that we are all in America for 'a better lifestyle' but I came because my company transferred me here. Being one of the people who has experienced other countries, I would now like to leave thank you very much. Isn't this supposed to be the section of the forum where people can discuss going home? Why attack someone for their feelings just because you don't share them? |

I can't help but wonder what starts tizzies such as this, but certainly postings can be read in a completely different tone than intended. There seem to have been more initial inflammatory statements and more offense taken. Across the board I have noticed an increase in tizzies generally and wonder if the stresses of the Christmas / New Year season has people more on edge than usual. There are stresses too in being at the point of making a huge decision to move from overseas and back to UK. Deep breath in everyone, let it out slow, |

But looking at her history of Posts, Mallory has previously posted a lot of useful info on the message boards. This is out of character.
