not going to turn this into a slanging match - which i presume from the tone of your post it could very well become- but was trying to balance out the down side of things that you mentioned.

Mrs M I never called you a liar at all and i resent that you think that i did -but i will not as you offer for me to do - ask your kids but again we can only state our own experiences. you have had yours and me mine.

I was just really shocked how negative your post was and it surprised me as it was totally different reasons than anything that you have told me over the phone and I just could not see why you are going home anymore - utter confusion

I have however felt quite hurt, and both Mark and I were really shocked, and as for a slanging match - if I didn't know you maybe, but that's not the way I work when it comes to friends.

The main reason that I said what I said is that I dont want you to make a mistake after all of the hard work which you have done over the pst 12 months.

You have come so far, for example

Organised the move - this i know from experience is hard work
Settled you kids down - ok was shaky at first but finally you have gotten them sorted.
You have done a full time course, passed it with flying colours from what you have said - and done this virtually as a one parent family.

The steps which you have taken have been huge and you have made a HUGE success of things down here in the Bridge - I am just so sorry that you feel the need to go back.

You are not the only person to miss their UK support network hun - I do too. I miss my mates and my mom and yesterday was a mess for hours due to her refusing to come out to visit but there again I suffer from the syndrome that my family here is canada think I am with my expat friends or Canadian friends and round and round so really I am a very lonely person here. I feel that you being the social butterfly which you truly are could only grow here in town.

Just truly think that you shouldnt give it all up because (and I say this as a friend) I really cant think that moving back will put you in any better a position.

Sorry that you feel the way that you do but as always I am always here for you however the words typed may have stung us both

The moon is obviously in the wrong place for us all. I too have been homesick and cried for hours yesterday due to lonliness (and I've been over in Aus for 15 years). We all miss our family and friends, we all have to make do and get on with what we have wether it be for a couple more months or for the rest of our lives. BUT we cant be turning on each other as you will regret it. Now kiss and make up and support each other as that is what friends are for even internet ones.

Mrs M knows where I am and that I will always be there for her - that is if she knows me like I think she knows me.

I have checked this thread out for the same reason as the original poster - we are about to move to Oz (Sydney) and was curious as to why people come back / are we making a mistake?
It seems to me after reading this we arent, and for that i will thank all of the above and it seems that the main reasons for returning dont apply to us -
Weather - my OH was born and raised in one of the driest places on earth in South America and has never got used to the UK
Money - I work in the resources indutry so salary will be 3x higher in Oz
Family - I am not close to mine (havent seen any of them in years) and OH only sees hers 2/3 times a year
Standard of living - We currently live in a 2 up 2 down in a VERY rough area, so are certain of improving on this
Beach lifestyle - I miss this so much, having been brought up on the coast and now living in the midlands
Not same as UK - Thank god, we have both lived in other countries and find UK the worst
Lack of culture - We live in leicester say no more

Until you experience something, you can't be certain about anything. We went with the absolute 100% certainty that we too would be far better off financially, we would have a much better quality of life and we would never set foot on British soil ever again.

Boy, the difference a year can make to a person's life.

I am in sydney at the moment and I love the place, was in Leicester visitng a few weeks back and know what you mean. Good Luck
