Part of the attraction lies in the quality of villages and the countryside plus there is a sense that the locals are friendlier than other areas in the south but there is also interest due to price. Many accept that this is a relatively low-income area and that is probably a big reason why housing is affordable. Some of us want to live in open country while others want easy access to services and might not be able to afford a car when on a pension.
I think that further living information regarding any of the towns in this area, such as Trowbridge, Westbury, Warminster would be useful. We already have posters who know about Frome and Bradford-on-Avon.
The house listing in Trowbridge is interesting because it is an apparent quality house at a fair price with an attractive original exterior. Trowbridge also offers good access by rail and road. Add what you wish for us.

Yetminster:
I mentioned when we last saw Yetminster that it was worth putting on the list. Here is a new listing which unfortunately has a ground floor bathroom (which I suppose is good for some) but looks attractively priced and ticks a lot of boxes.

Interestingly streetview shows this house with the agent's sign outside suggesting the street update is very recent.
You will recall that Yetminster is one of the finest stone-built villages in the south. Unfortunately the old stone property listed before is no longer listed.

Hi cheers, you remember when we originally posted for this place Yetminster there was discussion relating to the outlying railway stations which, per the latest published stats in the Guardian, might be forced to close if local councils don't foot the bill passed on from central government for providing service. Yetminster probably gets about 30 pax per day so it could lose its rail link and that could be a big deal but then it might not lose it - again, who knows?

It would be interesting to know whether councils would maintain bus services if they cut the rail - I guess they would, up to a point. I'm not talking Beeching, just certain stations closing to cut costs.

Anyone any idea of the percentage of houses that are actually advertised on Rightmove in the UK? Based on the area where I live, I reckon about 40%.

Is a garden flat another name for basement, rather like bedsits are now called studios?
I stayed in a basement flat for 3 months in Germany 2 years ago, but had to keep windows covered because people could easily look in from the street and back garden. It was conveniently located and a good rent, but not something I would like to buy and live in for a long term.

Are you seeing things in real estate agent windows that are not posted online?
Aries, a 'garden flat' is literally a flat with a garden. It's the ground floor flat.

Today's LET'S MOVE TO:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2011...northumberland
I had already read that there will be significant impact from public sector cuts in Morpeth. This could provide some opportunity. Sorry to see positives in others' negatives but then everybody else is guilty of that on here.

It would seem that you are right, though a garden flat can also be in the basement, or lower ground floor. Some examples have the front below pavement level, and the rear on a level with the back garden. Or both front and back are below. Very tricky.
