Take a look at this village on street view. Take away the cars and it looks like it is back in the 1800's or it is on a movie set.

Here's a curious flat in Tunbridge Wells. It appears to be tucked behind shops, and they talk it up by mentioning the film Notting Hill. Street View shows that it is surrounded by shops.

. I very much like the off-white of the bedroom including the floor boards but am not too keen on the kitchen in the living room or the washer in the bathroom.Don't think I would like to be without a bathtub.
A word of warning: I have 1000 sq ft of wooden deck and it is a maintenance nightmare. I have sworn never to have another wooden deck outdoors.

Stayed in a B&B there ten years back and used it as a base for touring the area. The Sign of the Angel is a beautiful hotel/restaurant. Harry Potter was being shot there while we were there.

Good country for walks but you would need a car as it is a bit remote.

Location can be quite important in Tunbridge Wells. The area where this flat is located is at the busy top end where most of the better regular retail shops are, the council buildings and the Victoria Centre (mall) is located. The hospital is also at this end.
You have to descend a fairly steep hill to get to the station and to the Pantiles (Georgian quarter) at the south end of the High Street. The nicest and most peaceful residential area is the Grove which is much closer to the station.
Camden Road, where this flat is located is a busy somewhat characterless street. It's about a twelve minutes or so good walk to get from Camden Road to the Pantiles. It would however be easier to do all of your food shopping at Tesco and green grocers around the Camden Road.
Another important residential area is behind Mount Ephraim which is on the edge of extensive parkland which stretches as far as Eridge Road to the south.
From what I understand, there is very good/over supply of flats/apartments in Tunbridge Wells.

Greece and Europe are one thing and that seems to get worse by the day until the banks will take yet another major hit and then what but when you read articles like this you worry far more about the UK and its future. Some of the comments are worth reading as well. The rot set in so long ago that it's hard to imagine implementing change now that will have any real effect, in time.
and this is the Telegraph!

Of course, I watch the Anglo-Saxon youths losing ground all of the time to the Asian youths who are much keener to get an education. Go to Canada where I lived and as far as the Anglo-Saxon youths there were concerned, it was hockey, hockey, hockey, and maybe a job in Wal-Mart. Britain has been importing skills for a long time that the locals cannot fill. Blame the parents for pampering them.

Indeed the idea of this reminding anybody of Notting Hill is pretty laughable.

My house will be ready for sale soon, and I still haven't decided where I will live in England. I will not have a car, so driving around looking at places will be out of the question. Nevertheless, English towns are not too spacious to cope, different to Adelaide which sprawls 90 km by 20 km.

The actual Grove is in picture 3.

Lovely house if you can stand the budget. There are Decimus Burton designed houses in a ring around Calverley Park. He was obviously busy in this area as well as west of Tunbridge Wells in Langton Green.
This property is on the ground floor below the Grove and towards the Pantiles and the High Street but still convenient for the station. This is a nice alternative to what I already own in T-Wells which is about 400 yards away on the other side of the Grove.

This property is located by the steep hill that leads from the station up to the shopping area I previously mentioned near Camden Road. Streetview shows the hill. Property in this area would give you good access to the station, parkland, shopping, the council buildings/library, Lloyds Bank and HSBC, department store (Hoopers) and Carluccios.

Part holiday and part scouting, I am leaning more and more towards renting though, at least for awhile anyway.

I did take a trip recently and I will be back over in early August, I bought a 15 day railpass, so my plans are to visit friends and relatives and travel all over the UK, ( including Faversham ).
Part holiday and part scouting, I am leaning more and more towards renting though, at least for awhile anyway.

I am over next month but unfortunately have not been able to set aside time to go to Faversham. Maybe next year.
