Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs
Always found 'Doc Martin' a bit 'wishy washy' and if it wasn't for the setting I'm sure it would lose some appeal.
Also find programmes like, 'Miss Marple', 'Midsoomer murders', 'George Gently' very mundane and predictable.
Prefer grittier stuff like 'Waking the dead' 'Luther' 'The Vice' etc.
What was that Scottish detective one called, starring John Hannah?

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs
Rebus was the one I was thinking of. Haven't seen 'Touch of cloth', but I see it's got Surrane Jones in it as well, so I may give it a go if I can find it.
IMHO, " I think 'Taggart' lost its appeal when Mark Mcmanus passed away. Great programme up until then.
Watched ' Scott & Bailey', pretty average fare.

Sometimes, it it best not to have read the books prior to watching a TV show or film. I could never accept John Hannah as DCI Rebus, but I do think that the longer running time of the each episode did allow for more development of the story. When the TV series was reworked and Ken Stott took over the role of Rebus it was much more in keeping with the book character ( in my mind). However, the running time was reduced and it inhibited the portrayal of the story.

But I've been using those two sites for a couple of years with no trouble at all.

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs
It's a valid concern I reckon, some of these sites make a nasty deposit on our systems, and we find out the hard way. I have used this:
http://www.watchseries-online.eu/2005/07/index.html
for about three years now with no problems. They have masses of series. Some of the older (2010 ish) ones show up as no longer available. But there is a good selection.
The selection of.....er, conduits? to watch the programmes can be anything from three to twentyish. I approached them like walking in a minefield!
So far no probs.
(I always take out history/cookies at the end of every online session, then run Superantispyware. I usually pick up a few marketing spies every session, no matter where I've been..........BE is completely clear!!)
I decided to avoid the election completely. I watched the complete series (5) of something called 'Nick Nickleby'.
It was ostensibly adapted from Nicholas N. Ha! A bit naff, but I stuck with it, it was OK.

Just watched , Australia with Simon Reeve' pt 1. Thought provoking. Love these travel programmes that take you away from the touristy stuff.
Also managed to watch part one of "Frozen Planet' in HD. Jaw droppingly wonderful. TV at its best.

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs
Just watched the first part of 'Benefits Britain - 1949". One minute I'm glad the benefits system is more compassionate, the next I'm wondering if the old rules were better in a, cruel to be kind, sort of way.

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs
I have just watched parts 2 and 3 and need to look for part 1. What an excellent program! It was great to see how "cracking the whip" inspired most of them to improve their attitudes towards work and to appreciate how lucky they are to live in today's world of benefits, rather than in 1949.

Re: Broadchurch and Other UK TV Programs
I watched the first episode of BB 1949 but missed the rest.
It was a bit like a Jeremy Kyle Show spin-off, quite cruel and mean-spirited. However, it did expose the underlying weaknesses of the system, including the fact that people with genuine disabilities are less likely to get work now, even if they want it.
The woman who had been on long-term "disability" was not a very sympathetic character - all full of p*ss and vinegar and an overweening sense of entitlement. You get the sense if you found her a job that was do-able she'd find a reason why she was "incapable".
