Well done and lovely to hear from you. :D

Nothing like spring flowers in the UK.

Great news on your seats, hope I am so lucky.

Oh yes I will be the next homing pigeon.

Well I can't believe the time has finally come from when I was marking off say 60 days on my work calendar to now.......one sleep to go.

My boss phoned me yesterday and said I am to stay on the payroll on leave without pay while they work out the logistics of this job and he will email my contract, it's all sounding very positive, but I did gently remind him that while I am happy to stay on leave without pay it can't be indefinitely as I will need an income, just a gentle nudge. ;)

I had a really nice day yesterday with my friend from Liverpool, I was only going to stay for an hour or 2 but it turned into 6 hours of yacking LOL!!

She is one of those really unfortunate people who is truly trapped here in Australia and hates it.

I felt so sad for her as I drove off and counted my blessings that I have this opportunity..........

Just logged on quickly to catch you before you go, Beedubya, to wish you a safe flight home. Maybe we'll get time to have that catch-up when I get back to the UK in September if you are still working in the area.

I look forward to hearing your news from 'the other side' and best of luck with your 'new' life back home!

Hi all.....a quick update from the UK. Arrived in Manchester Wed am - dog and I intact. It was drizzling with rain in Manchester, but it was a welcome relief from dusty, arid AZ.

For those returning to Manchester with a pet, I can't praise the clearing Agents, Pets On Jets, enough. They've been a wonderful source of support and advice throughout the final stages of the DEFRA process. Got a ride from them up to Scotland and arrived safe & sound, if a trifle jet-lagged, mid afternoon.

It's raining and windy today, but who cares? I'm home! :D

Barb, I think you're next? Best wishes for a safe flight, happy landings and exciting new beginnings!

Wonderful news! On a guilt trip as forgot to track your flight (not sure if you posted your flight details?) There are so many threads it's hard to keep up!

Bon Voyage, Beedubya as you return from Sydney to Manchester via Abu Dhabi!

(I had to connect via Abu Dhabi airport a few years ago, not sure if it's been updated but the flight connection waiting area was strange....round and like an mushroom with green and white tiles everywhere and nothing to do apart from buy expensive coffee!)

Difficult to work out which flights Beedubya will be on (did she post her flight # anywhere?) but I think they are:

Depart on Etihad Airways

26 FEB (almost a day ahead of UK and USA) SYD to AUH on EY 455 (dep SYD local time 9.50pm, arrive AUH 05.40am)

27 FEB: AUH to MAN on EY15

Track flights on the Etihad Airways website or on Flightstats.co.uk or Flightaware.com

What webpage are you looking at? Last time I looked they said the positioning device had been turned off. I can understand why with some of the countries they were flying over. What do I know?

Correct Quoll!!! Arrived right on time, not the best flight I have ever had, but I am home. Terrible saying goodbye to my daughter and kids, but it is done now, got really bad on the plane crying and so on.:(

The weather is grey and rainy and a bit cold. I tried to sleep for a few hours but am over tired now. My 2 sisters picked me up, just waiting for my mum and brother and his wife to come around and a few others will pop in.

Will check in again when my head gets back into the right time zone, its all a bit fuzzy at the moment.

Thank you for your good wishes, windsong and charleygirl. :) Windsong, I'm in Edinburgh. BTW, you have to accompany your pet when entering the UK via Manchester. I flew with Continental, and the Cargo Agents at check-in and, in flight, the cabin crew and even the Captain were wonderfully reassuring regarding my dog. He was the only animal on both flights, so I was concerned they remembered they were carrying an animal and that there was heating 'down below'. My dog has settled really well; no ill-effects at all...unlike me, who is still jet-lagged. I keep waking up at 3am, hungry for dinner. :p

Welcome home, Barb!

Poppycat - I was raised in Edinburgh and it is one place I am considering returning to - in addition to Somerset in England :)

If you and doggie flew on Continental what role did Pets in Jets play in all this? Are they the ones who took care of all the DFREA paperwork?

I have two dogs and two cats that are all returning with me. I thought of going on the Queen Mary but if I hear enough reports about doggies and kitties doing okay on the plane, I may go that way. I'm just not sure I would be allowed to take four animals on the same plane with me. I ought to call and find out.

Hi windsong. Pets on Jets are the clearing agents for UK Customs @ Manchester Airport and, although they don't clear animals for Continental (Continental use a company called PBS), all dogs, cats and ferrets arriving at Manchester Airport are ultimately picked up from the Pets on Jets facility. Pets on Jets don't do the DEFRA paperwork - you can either do it yourself (as I chose to do) or, if you're using a pet transportation company, that company will do the paperwork (or at least talk you through it to ensure the process is carried out in the correct order). However, it's very easy to complete the paperwork yourself; personally I didn't think employing the services of a pet transportation company was worth the money. As for my own involvement with Pets on Jets, even although they are not the clearing agents for Continental Airlines, while I was still State-side I contacted them during the final stages of the process to double-check I had crossed all the 'T's' and dotted all the 'I's' and they told me they'd be happy to review all my paperwork to ensure everything was in order prior to my arrival. I scanned and emailed everything to them. Also, I was travelling solo with heavy luggage, and when I mentioned that to them they very kindly offered to meet me on arrival at the airport and take me first to Servisair to collect the Release paperwork for my dog, and then drive me to their facility to pick up my dog. Further, they offered to drive me to Scotland for a nominal fee, so my journey was effectively door-to-door (from the airport direct to my sister's house). :D

Thank you, Poppycat. That's a great help to me :)

I haven't started the DFREA paperwork yet as I have a while to go but considering starting it this year. I must admit to being a bit intimidated by the whole process but it sounds as if it isn't too bad - not just the paperwork but the shots for the pets, the tests - the whole works.

PS - How does doggie seem to like the UK so far :)
