Following up to Bob Fusillo
>Valentine was executed on A.D. February 14, 270, during one of the Christian

so we have got it all wrong, we should execute a few people on
Valentines day rather than make card manufacturers richer in the
hope of pulling a girl we are afraid to ask if she would "sleep"
with us? Or am I too unromantic?

Thanks to every one that offered suggestions. I ended up proposing on a
gondola right by the Rialto Bridge our first night there. Plaza was way
too crowded and full of pigeons. Top of the tower was freezing and
windy. Rialto Bridge was also extremely crowded. Would have been
perfect if I could have gotten the gondolier to take a picture during
the act. 80 euro and no singing? Don't know that I would ever go back
to Europe tho, unless it was in the summer. Way too cold. Actually
snowed in Venice and rained in Rome. I think we'll stick to cruises to
the Caribbean. Plus food was really expensive. 4 person buffet outside
the Vatican for 85 euro? They microwaved the dishes!
Funny story about the gelato. Went to Nico for the famous iced caffee
but got confused and ended up asking for the gelato instead of what I
assume was the iced coffee.
Thanks again!

Did she say yes?
For what it is worth, I like europe in the off season (and I like
Caribbean cruises, too)

Sounds like we were there at the same time. Why didn't you stop me and
say hello? Oh, all right. I accept that you had a more pressing
engagement!
I took a picture of the grand canal from the Rialto. Perhaps you were
in one of the gondolas.
Given the number of visitors in Venice in February, I'm not sure if I
could put up with the crowds in summer.

Neither Herself nor I could bring ourselves to order gelato, much
though we like it. The ambient temperature was too damn low.
Are you going to invite us to the wedding?
May you have many years of happiness together.

You have lived, and that is a good starting point for understanding

Human nature is much more complicated than you seem to believe. I'm not taking bets on it
any longer - at least *this* I learned.

Sure, human nature is complicated. But we need to get on with life.
We make assumptions about and interpretations of all sorts of human
behaviour every day, knowing deep down that we could be wrong, but
trusting that we are probably right. Most times we're right.
