If its carnival time he might end up married to the wrong girl.

I agree. For Proposing in Venice, it has to be a Gondola, it has to be
arranged in advance, I agree with someone that it is going to cost, but if
you have bought the ring (or are prepared to buy the ring after she says
yes) and you are going to Italy, then dang it, this is not the time to
pinch pennies. This is the time to splurge.

Plus, isn't it closed for cleaning right now. It's not the prettiest
place with all the graffiti and love notes. Unless you actually got her
up on the balcony and proposed from below.

Still it's crowded, not that pretty, not genuine and graffiti filled.

Gondola is better.

I hope their marriage takes less work than the proposal...

That's a great idea. Ask her, and THEN if she says yes, say "let's go
shop for a ring!".

Means that if she says no, the pain is only limited to your heart and
pride!

Ah yes, but the willingness to go the extra mile to do this for the
proposal, bodes well for the marriage.

I really don't think so. A romantic gesture is nice but, in my
opinion, has little bearing on long-term prospects.

We will have to agree to disagree. a Successful happy marriage requires
a willingness to occasionally sacrifice or go out of ones way to make the
other happy.

If you are foolish enough to go out on the limb and get married, then
I salute you. Making a marriage work is a hell of a wonderful task. Do
it at your peril!
