People living next to motorways can find that noise distressing too. I
would be distressed if someone was playing music that I could hear from
my study.

I'm not the one defending anything- you're the one in pugilistic mood
today. I'm simply saying that airplane noise affects less people. That's
all. You're confusing 'yourself' with everyone.

I tried. It's a sign of busy skies. As a kid I stared out of the window
all the time on flights, and hardly ever saw other planes. Now, it's
rare not to pass a few (albeit at a safe distance) on a short flight.

Of course, but not from planes at Manchester airport.

Especially when coming from a car on a motorway.
I stayed in a hotel on the outskirts of Toulouse that was near enough to an auto
route to have this problem.

It effects far more people than you think. We are 20km from Schiphol. It effects
us and most of the people living within 30 kms of Schiphol, which is a good
chunk of the population of Holland.
City Airport is not typical, only small aircraft use it and there is not a take
off/landing every 30 seconds.

You should have flown to Paris in the late 1960s when there were frequent air
traffic control strikes, I can remember being able to see a dozen other aircraft
circling over Orly, whilst the ATC was having a work to rule or a go slow or
something. No wonder real pilots like Mixi ignore instructions from ATC.

Why not? Because you meant emitting from planes at Manchester Airport?

The planes from the airport leave trails, but they're not the ones I can
see from here- which are high above the centre of the city, and caused
by planes from other airports. I can't vouch for certain none of them
are from MAN, but given the routes of planes taking off and landing from
the airport, I'd doubt it very much.

ive heard the name vaguely, I dont see what the pun would have been
really? Mind you ive been looking at music downloading and now know
all these terms like trance, hip hop and garage, dunno what they mean
though. Put off by virgin wanting to impose a copying limit without
saying how many times and what else the software might do. Think i'll
