Scratch, scratch. Let's hope Gamin de Paris can rustle up a nice saucer

Absolutely

but for those of us with less cast-iron bladders, an aisle seat is
preferable. In fact I find window seats horribly claustrophobic at the
best of times. Being stuck in one and feeling inhibited about
disturbing my sleeping neighbours in order to take a leak is my idea of
hell :-)

My employer arranged a team-building event a while ago. The management
travelled to the venue 1st class, the workers by second class.

Your employer is not the first to do that.

Stupid? No.
Reactionary isn't much different from old fashioned.
Hypocritical? What are you thinking of exactly?

Double standards in morality.

I know somebody on a team bonding adventure, who took the first plane
home after being volunteered by the boss to wade across a raging
torrent in the Pyrenees with a rope, so that the rest of the team
could cross in safety. He'd already expressed in public total
disinterest in bonding with any of them, before the exercise.
