I haven't noticed such posts in r.t.usa-canada, but I'll check again
today. FWIW, I can understand such posts by Europeans about the U.S.
as a target better than vice versa.

That's most of the city, you racist fool! DC is 70% black, and most of
it is safe to walk through. I walked through DC day and night for a
week without any problems.

Don't you mean "Sylvester" Stallone? FWIW, several European opera
singers with scheduled appearances in the U.S. in the autumn of 2001
cancelled in the wake of 11 September, too. (But most of those worth
hearing honored their obligations.)

Exactly! (Not exactly the way I'd have phrased it, but true,
nonetheless.)

Better still, make the politicians duke it out bare-handed, instead of

Not really, though I walked about 6 miles on a day with 98F (almost
37C) temperatures (but mostly in the shade). :-)

Yes, I get the joke. :-)

Over 2 million people are imprisoned in the United States, nearly 1% of
the population.
This figure is 7 times higher than the rate in Canada and nearly 10
times higher than most European countries. See 2001 statistics at
http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/pdfs/r166.pdf for example.
Does this prove that the USA is safer than Europe?
Think about it.

There is some security warning we are supposed to be given if it is
unsafe to travel and I have not heard or read of any at this point.
We can't live our lives constantly in anxiety because governments can't
settle their problems without battling it out in a "War". Last night on
the news they were saying Americans should go on with their life and
travel plans as usual. Of course this is after they try to frighten us
with raising their "Terrorist" code to "orange". It's like saying
"Your house is on fire but just continue to watch your favorite tv
program and pretend all is well". What a crock!

If you were told not to walk there at all, the person was probably a tad
ridiculous (and/or lived in the suburbs). If you were told not to wander
around there looking lost and wearing a giant gold pocketwatch at 3am, then
that was sensible advice.

I don't think it proves anything either way. Maybe they locked up all the
dangerous people. Maybe there are far more dangerous people and they've only
scratched the surface. How can you tell from that information?
