Actually, York is faster to get to from London than Stratford. In
summer, it's always busy, but I think it _feels_ less busy than
Stratford. I don't know what the actual figures are though for tourists.
I'm a fan of day-trips myself, though the one disadvantage for busy
places is that you don't get to see the place when it's at its least
busy- i.e. early morning. I took most of these pictures at 8am on a
Sunday last year-

Sorry- there should be an "l" (for labrador) at the end. It was there in
my post- don't know why it didn't work!

I agree. It's why I originally stated "depending upon her
personal interests". Flip side it seemed a no brainer to me
that an 18 year old girl from the US in the UK for the first time
ought to at least go to London for a couple of days.

It's part of the reason I don't like day trips to begin with. But
yes, I would personally prioritize as much on time as much
else.

Cheers!

Nice pix - I don't think I've ever been to Stratford early enough to
see it that devoid of people.

York has good nightlife. She can definitely have fun there. I saw a
lot of hen parties there.

But the train journeys can be a lot of fun, and very comfortable. I had
to go to Scotland (near Dumfries) for the day to work on Tuesday. It's a
very beautiful journey by train, for the most part.

I entirely agree. It is a delightful city. Just don't go by car!

What's the problem going by car? There's plenty of park and rides and even large
car parks close to the centre.

I went to the RS theatre once in January. The streets were deserted, something
to do with it being excedingly cold.
