I'm happy with mine in Nova Scotia in the summer and Arizona in the winter. It works well and really isn't any bother. Even the 3,700 mile trek back and forth isn't really a chore. Endless summer...almost.

Rudyard Kipling did that - summers in England (Sussex!) and South Africa. And he didn't have to endure air travel -- Union Castle all the way.

Seaside village in Cornwall, with lots of artists in the area. Whitewashed walls, small cat for company. ![Star Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/star_smile.gif)

I'd pass the time in a country cottage with a circular driveway at the end of a long tree lined drive in Kent or Surrey, with no busy roads to see or hear and about three acres to indulge a hobby farm. I'd have chickens (marans and light sussex), white doves in a cote, rabbits, a fish pond, ducks, maybe a goat and a horse and a couple of sheep. All the animals would get along famously and at night they'd snuggle up in an Oast house. I'd also love a stream for paddling and tadpoles and a small bluebell wood. I would also have a pair of cats... one black and one siamese. And a big oak tree for the squirrels. All of this would be surrounded by thousands of naturalised daffodils and wild primroses. Inside there would lots of windows to let in the morning sun, there would be an inglenook fireplace, beams for horse brasses and french doors leading into a pretty high-walled garden. (I might also buy a flat in London somewhere nice, to do the shows, shopping etc.) It's nice to dream

I think that I'd like an apartment in London, and the same in New York.... They're not places that I'd like to actually live, but I do love to visit frequently.
To live in:
mmmm; I think that maybe I'd really like to live in a Regency house either in Leamington Spa or Bath. One with a basement kitchen (I'm a kitchen sort of a girl!) Custom made and designed by Smallbone, with two ovens!

Exactly where I am right now, in a tiny little cottage in West Sussex overlooking the South Downs. It's taken years, and a lot of to-ing anf fro-ing to get here, but I'm finally where I want to be.....she says smugly!

This is a lovely question. Thanks to the OP.![Thumbs Up](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
If money's no object, that would include pleasant transportation of all kinds, so that makes things easier. I think I might like to nip off on impulse to places here and there -- in my private plane, of course, with chauffeur at both ends, or perhaps first class train -- but they wouldn't have to be fancy. More downtown apartments or small rural cottages. And I'd have caretakers, so they were always ready on short notice.
Long distance? Ships or if I have to fly, first class.
But I'd want my main home to be my English coastal one, and we've not yet found quite the right place, even for our more modest requirements. I'd be torn between a big place, especially an old estate, and wanting neighbors. I'm not an extreme privacy sort of person. Certainly need servants to take care of it.
We looked around Cornwall and decided it wasn't for us. We prefer Devon and Dorset.
We're in Whitby and leaving. Great place to visit, but living here is for the hardy, especially close to the sea. Had a terrific storm the other night that coated all the windows with salt -- as if they were frosted -- and saltburned all the tender plants in the garden. Luckily, we were getting sunburned in Lancashire at the time!
There's a reason all these old towns are tucked away down rivers or in bays. They weren't daft.![LOL](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/lol.gif)
A place in London, yes, though one of the better clubs might do.![Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I'd have lots of fun visiting different sunny locations to decide where to spend the winter, but I'd certainly be gone for January and February.

Interesting that a high proportion of responders have wanted their UK rural/small town pad to be at the seaside. I'm in that group.
Having a club is an interesting one .. I suppose they are a sort of compromise between having a little flat in town, and just using a hotel. I've toyed with the idea of joining a club, the idea is intriguing.. but in practice, not sure what the advantage is over a hotel.
I'm eligible to join the Williams Club in New York, which would give me reciprocal rights in a number of clubs in London. For instance, I could stay at the East India Club in St. James's Square, which apparently incorporates the Eccentrics Club.. If I happened to be in Mumbai, then of course I could stay in the Royal Bombay Yacht Club... which is a "404 not found??"
