dogtooth pattern (think black and white checked lady di blazers) very in. i am pleased to say the bob is back!!! i knew if i didnt change my hairstyle itd come back in to fashion eventually!
Victoria Beckhams doing all the retro 60s stuff so thats in Dorothy Perkins etc.
As well a pokemon, yu-gi-oh cards are v popular
whats i ve noticed thats really good, is some video shops sell dvds now for only a couple of quid more than the cost to hire as they have caught on that if not, people will hire then burn anyway so they may as well just sell the preused ones off instead. so, for eg the harry potter dvd, i got for £6 rather than hiring it out for £3 for a night. i dont think the Ozzies realise that people will use technology to their advantage and that if you cant beat them you have to join them in some way yet

I love my Freeview. 20 or more channels absolutely free to air, so long as you have a box. There is even a free Sky package that is similar!

Absolutely love being back; I was driving along the M25 on the way home from work today at 80mph (yes, during rush hour) smiling and chuckling to myself about everything. It's just not right to be that happy on the M25.
oh I haven't driven that fast in years

I wonder if our digital box here will work in the UK?

I always hated shopping in England but I have been starved of it for so long I am eager to start. I was in my element the other day when I needed to order some pet stuff for my dog who is flying to stay with my sister. I logged onto Tesco and so easily was I able to get all that I wanted, with pictures to look at in all. Even ordered her a box of chocolates - 2 for £5 what a bargain I haven't treated myself to chocolates in years due to the price here. Chose the delivery date and time and paid. So simple, such bliss

They are ahead of America in many aspects as well.

Am I going to find that they are ahead in fashion? Will my girls clothes seem out of date? Are movies screened earlier in England? What is the latest T.V / digital and what can we expect if we use digital T.V. Are the terrestrial channels 1 to 5 still the same with 5 showing all the cheap shows and re-runs and 2 showing the black and white movies?

What is the latest faze for kids. Here my youngest is into Pokemon and she would like to know if they trade in primary schools there?

When I moved to the USA I thought I'd gone back in time 40 years...

So true! My husband went back in May and brought me back a litle CD/radio player which cost him 12 quid at Asda - similar one here was $80.

Very interesting response from a Aussie Born, Irish descendant girl at work, who has just had some personal issues and may be going back to the UK, after spending 5 years there in a relationship. Then moving here with her UK boyfreind... investing in a house then breaking up.....(A financial disaster for both)

When I told her about this thread she thought I was joking... I told her that she could find some personal support on here, (she has a very good job offer back in Manchester) hopfully she will be on to give her views in the next couple of days.

Come on C Give your views from your time up North as to why Aussie has better Technology

Saw a piece on the news last night that has enabled people to see unborn animals in detail. The pictures of the tiny dolphin and elephant could melt the coldest of hearts.... came from England of cause but it least it was mentioned on OZ TV. I was shocked :scared:

Thank you. Not nervous at all now. No doubts either. Maybe thats bacause we are leaving the door open here to allow us to return if we need.

I promise I will update all but remember me as I will not be posting for 7 weeks as we are travelling. Hubbies company has given him a bonus to take with him as well as holiday pay. cheers

Who else is returning soon and when?

I think it's swings and roundabouts here - some things are in front in the UK - fashion, films, CDs, some technology etc. When we came here, I wanted one of those great top loading washing machines that you can't get in the UK - but have since been informed that everyone here is getting into the "new" european style front loaders

My husband thinks that some of the stuff in Bunnings here is great - some of the DIY and building stuff etc. which save time and effort. He reckons there is loads of really good stuff that they just don't have in the UK. I didn't ask what exactly sorry

Wow that's great - you lucky things! When are you going and where are you planning on travelling? I'm going back at Christmas for a holiday and then hopefully back again Feb for good (it's complicated).

We are backpacking to Ayres Rock, Darwin and surrounds, Spending Christams at Kakado before heading to Port Douglas, Bangkok and Brunei. Stopping off in Sydney just to say that I have been there. Spent so long on the pc trying to sort it all out that I have became addicted to BE again

Are you all going back at Christmas?
