Have I missed something here? Why the slating for Tesco....personally I prefer Tesco to Asda and take offence at being called an idiot thank you very much!

I'm wondering if those doing the name calling re the supermarkets are the folk who don't have to do the weekly shop (i.e. married men perhaps.) I now shop online with Ocado as it sure as heck beats taking a 2-year old + baby round Tesco for an hour (free delivery and one-hour delivery slots between 7am-11pm...I love it!). Our local Tesco Extra is fabulous tho. I spend a lot less money doing the groceries online as I can keep a check on my running total as I add to my basket and stop when I reach a limit, whereas in Tesco I get to the checkout and wonder how I managed to spend that amount!

Glad to see I aren't the only one who misses Tesco then!
And to think some people think it's weird me having a photo of my local Tesco as my pc's wallpaper.........

Re: Shops-what do you miss the most?
so frustrated yesterday looking for trainers for my 2 boys. There just is not enough choice or shops.
We walked all day trawling every shop looking for the right size and style, but nothing.
I have resigned to the fact that internet shopping is better and if it costs that little bit more then it is worth it.
What i found bizarre is that some of the shop assistants agreed with me and said Perth is useless when it comes to trainers and suggested i go to Hong Kong. As if!!!

Shops that actually stay open when people are able to shop. I am sick of turning up to shops and finding that they shut at 12.30, or 4.00 on a Saturday. And then aren't open at all on Sundays. When do they think that people can go shopping??
Also, I have been trying to get maternity clothes, and most pressingly some shorts. Can I find any anywhere?? Do Myers or David Jones sell maternity clothes? No they don't. I tried Target and found about 3 items left on their shelves, including one pair of shorts, but not in my size. I asked a shop assistant if they had any more stock anywhere. She told me no they don't, what I could see was all their was. So I asked when they would be getting more stock in and she told that they they never knew when anything would be coming or what it would be - it just turns up. And then she told me that the next delivery they got would be winter clothes anyway. Excuse me, did she say winter clothes?? First week of January... isn't that the height of Summer??? Ended up going to a 'specialist' maternity shop and paying a small fortune for some items of clothing that I shall only be wearing for half a year!

The MIL was telling me the other day that most elderly people here go to a podiatrist as a matter of course, as they have foot problems, and I've noticed that ads specify shoes that fit the "wider foot" - does anyone else think that this is the result of so many people either going barefoot, or wearing badly fitting shoes? I know I was told as a chil that if I didn't wear shoes that were confortably tight, my feet would spread, but here all the shoes seem designed to fit loosely (cos of the heat I suppose?)

I think its the attitude, p;us the fact that they believe the country has the best there is on offer, so they don't think they need to supply a greater choice. Shoes here are awful (IMO) - I get mine from the Uk as well as The Bloke's.

I bought some shoes last week, they are killing me cos they are too tight.
I am only a size 4 (UK), 6 here, so don't know if they do the smaller the feet the narrower they are.
I've asked my MIL to send me 5 pairs of shoes over from the UK

Yes you have missed something. Last year when I was in the UK there seemed to be a bit of a "supermarket war" going on between Tesco and ASDA. In a strange way it reminded me of the baffling way Aussies get worked up about Fords or Holdens. So I was just making an (admittedly lame) joke along those lines.
And I have done (and still do) the weekly shop for as long as I can remember !

I have found it really hard for kids shoes, was excited when I found they sold clarks, but dissapointed when I found out they do one width fitting and they are uk stock from 2/3 years ago! my daughter has really tiny and narrow feet and I cant get her a pair of shoes that fit her properly she started walking here so I cant wait to get home and go and get her feet measured and then she may stop tripping up all the time!

TRIVIA from Wikidpedia...James Alexander Holden immigrated to South Australia from England in 1852 and in 1856 established J.A Holden & Co, a saddlery business in Adelaide. The first Holden, a family six, was made in 1948, and the first Australian Ford Falcon was made in 1960. Both were based on US designs and when reading the history US General Motors was in the picture considerably....Alexander Holden, who in 1856 set up a saddlery business in Adelaide (SA) which evolved to become Holden's Motor Body Builders, merging in 1931 with General Motors Australia to become General Motors-Holden' s and retaining the symbol of the Holden lion (the company officially changed its title from General Motors-Holden's Automotive to Holden Ltd.).In 1931 General Motors purchased the business and formed General Motors–Holden's Ltd. In 1998, it was renamed Holden Ltd and in May 2005, it became known as GM Holden Ltd.
