Re: Schoolboys get detention for refusing to pray to Allah!
Strange thing for them to do if that's the case, as it will only serve to fuel this anti-muslim sentiment, I would have thought.
If, on the other hand, they want to get people to be more accepting of Muslims, then ditching the burka would be an excellent start! |

Personally I think that British H&S regulations and cultural demands should take precedence but if anyone starts trying to tell people in a hostile manner what they can and cant do - when the issue is grey - it's the obvious response they're going to get. |

Very good points again. I don't think there's any need for anyone to tell anyone anything in a hostile manner. It's about everyone just trying to get along and everyone using common sense and basic courtesy.
Sounds like a very easy thing to me, but sadly it's far from it! |

Re: Schoolboys get detention for refusing to pray to Allah!
To be honost, being allowed to travel to a country has nothing to do with religion or either country. Palistine Arabs ave been fighting over land with Irael for a few decades now. If I was from Palistine (or Israel) and one of my close relatives was killed by the other party, I would probably feel the same way and not want to buy anything from that country.
Jews had full citizen rights during Prophet Mohammad rule in arab. Islam considers everyone (of any religion or sex) equal. If some cultures, including in Saudi Arabia, do not see it that way, it is either their misinterpretation, lack of education, or simply stupid cultural ignorance.

When I worked for an Arabic/Muslim company we were not allowed to order any products from Israel. No secret was made of that fact and no secret was made of their dislike of Jewish people - the utter shock/horror on their faces when I said my friend was Jewish.
My sister in law from N. Africa said she had to 'fight' to be allowed to travel like her brothers and she said she clearly remembers being taught at school that 'Muslims and Jews must never be friends'. She said she had far more freedom and equality in Western society than she ever did in her home country. |

Methinks you're (a) muslim and (b) a male muslim, either that or stark raving bonkers! I am sorry to say but it seems like you are implying being a Male Muslim is a crime or something. |

Re: Schoolboys get detention for refusing to pray to Allah!
To me, this debate here shows that they should teach comparitive religions in schools everywhere. Not practicing, or pretending to practice the religions, but simply learning about them.
As someone said, look to Moorish Spain hundreds of years ago for what Islam can be, and remember that it was Christian fundamentalists of the time that destroyed an intellectually rich part of the world and not exactly tossed it back into the middle ages -- it was the middle ages  -- but snatched away the ways it was far advanced over the rest of Europe. On the other side, there are extremist Christians in the States thumping their Bibles and reciting that women must be subject to their husband, Othodox Jewish women wearing wigs because they're not supposed to show their hair, and all sorts of odd things, I hear, in the Mormons. Religion has been the root of most human problems, but only when it turns extremist. And always feeding on fear and ignorance. Anyone remember Ian Paisley claiming Catholics eat babies? Just look at the history of Northern Island to see how badly Christianity can screw things up without any help from other ways of worshipping God. Bev |

As for your information regarding all non believers should be killed or converted, it is not true. Most mass media, especially in the US, uses verses from Quran to come up with these lines without any consideration for the context of any information surrounding that line. |

Well, if you think about it all religions consider people from other religions infidels. Infidel means, non believer. If you do not believe in a particular religion, then you are a non believer to them.

Koran Surah 4:89 They long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that ye may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back (to enmity) then take them and kill them wherever ye find them, and choose no friend nor helper from among them |

I only hope that we all can live peacefully in this world or it is going to be a very bad world for our kids to live in. http://www.islamonline.net/servlet/S...=1119503544502 |
